Great Read - historical fiction from James Lee Burke

I was looking for a good light read and historical fiction, since I mostly read nonfiction. I have read only one of James Lee Burke's books, but know he is a very popular author. White Doves at Morning did not disappoint. The characters and scenes are depicted in depth and detail. The story line is straightforward and easy to follow without being simplistic. The characters are great! This book did not disappoint. It was a terrific read and led me to want to learn more about the aftermath of the Civil War. I wish Burke would write more historical fiction. I have read reviews by James Lee Burke fans who were disappointed in the book, but this is not a thriller or detective-type medium (the historical novel). I think Burke does great credit to the genre.

Great for civil war buffs.

This was an awesome read, especially for Civil War buffs. James Lee Burke is a master at character development; you actually care about his characters.
