Fine Holiday Classic But Not As Good As Holiday Inn

White Christmas (1954) is now considered a great holiday classic which many people enjoy watching every year. It's a fine film about a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) who travel with two successful song-and-dance men (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) to Vermont, where the girls are engaged to perform at the inn belonging to the boys' former army general.

They are all disappointed to find no snow and no audience awaiting them. In typical let's-put-on-a-show style, they arrange a big performance that will bring patrons to the general's slumping business. Along the way Kaye and Vera-Ellen push Crosby and Clooney together romantically so that by the end everybody is very happy when Bing sings his famous rendition of "White Christmas."

While White Christmas is a fine movie, I prefer Holiday Inn, the 1942 film in which Crosby introduced the Oscar-winning "White Christmas," as well as Irving Berlin's songs for every holiday. Holiday Inn starred Bing and Fred Astaire, who were supposed to be reunited in White Christmas. Danny Kaye filled in for Astaire. Holiday Inn is a superior film to White Christmas and also a great classic. The latter film feels too contrived to me. The entire plot is structured around the need for Crosby to sing the title song at the happy ending.

I suggest you watch both Holiday Inn and White Christmas. They are both very good and entertaining films, and you and your family will have a fun time watching them this holiday season.Lire l'avis complet...
