Younger years

In my younger years I remember watching this on TV. How funny Bill Murray is in his day-to-day life and how he struggles with phobia. Dr. Leo Marvin is hilarious as well. I like how he establishes such a dependency with his doctor that he follows him on vacation. If you're a fan of Bill Murray I highly suggest this movie from his catalog. You won't be disappointed. I'm glad I was able to find this on eBay for a good price.Lire l'avis complet...

What About Bob? Had to own it!

After catching the end of "What About Bob" on t.v. a couple of weeks ago I decided I had to own it! It really is one of Bill Murray's best roles although Richard Dreyfuss is especially phenomenal. Bill Murray (Bob) comes to Richard Dreyfuss (Dr. Marvin) with a menagerie of problems. Dr. Marvin gives him a copy of his new book titled Baby Steps. Before Bob even gets to try his 'baby steps' he finds out Dr. Marvin is going on vacation for a month. This throws Bob into a tizzy so he craftily finds out where Dr. Marvin is vacationing and manages to find his way there. The most hysterical part of this movie is that Bob is driving Dr. Marvin absolutely crazy, but his family thinks Bob is great. They even say he's more fun than Dr. Marvin. There is a scene where Richard Dreyfuss is waiting for the rain to stop so that Bob can walk himself home. The look on Richard's face as he steadily stares up at the rain with the hope that it will quit any minute while he hears Bob laughing and singing with his family in the background is HYSTERICAL! There's a few twists and turns near the end as Dr. Marvin becomes more and more desperate to rid himself of Bob. It DOES go a little overboard near the end and leans toward pure cornyness but redeems itself a little in the last scene when Dr. Marvin comes out of a "What About Bob" induced coma just in time to witness his sister marrying Bob! The family AND Bob kiss Dr. Marvin on the cheek and everything seems as if it's going to be okay. This is really a great movie that my family enjoys watching over and over. They also love imitating Dr. Marvin yelling at Bob, "DON'T TOUCH MY SISTER!". If you like comedy, especially comedy without the raunch or crud, you'll want to add this movie to your personal DVD library! Note: Does contain some cussing although it's mostly contained in one scene where Bob claims to have a condition that causes him to having outbreaks of cussing. There's also some mild crude language such as 'douche bag'.Lire l'avis complet...

Super Hilarious

This has GOT to be one of Bill Murray's best performances/movies EVER! He really draws you in. You find him irritating; then you feel for him; then you love him; then you're cracking up at and with him and his antics. The interaction between him, Richard Dreyfus and the Dreyfus family is truly entertaining. You will want to watch this movie over and over again year after year. I bought it for my sister and we live on two separate coasts. She called me laughing so hard she could hardly talk. Yes, it's that good.Lire l'avis complet...

Hilarious

Hilarious movie. Why don't they make movies like this anymore as a norm? Today's comedy is so low-brow and vulgar, in my opinion.
Bob's a special kind of friend. The kind that drives you crazy!

What About Bob? (DVD, 2000)

This is a funny movie! It is classic Bill Murray as "Bob". He is a total nut case! This guy has more issues than the Encyclopedia of Psychiatry. Richard Dreyfuss is the lucky guy who becomes Bob's shrink. The problem is that Bob is a 24/7 job - One That Just Won't Go Away! Dreyfuss wrote a book "Baby Steps", and Bob sees it as his salvation, and follows Dreyfuss on vacation, and into their lives! This guy is like the "Red-Headed step-son" that you just can't get away from. He brings his problems with him like a dose of the plague, and he is just the carrier - everyone else gets sick! If he eats a banana, you slip and break your leg on the peel; if he J-walks and you throw your breaks on to avoid him, someone piles into the back of you; If he burns leaves across the street from your home, your house catches fire! This guy is a nightmare! In the many twists and turns of trying to rid both himself and his family of "Bob", Dreyfuss winds up going nuts himself - with Bob gaining credibility and fame as his savior. This is a non-stop laugh from start to finish.Lire l'avis complet...

The patient who is so needy he goes on vacation stalking you on your vacation. There are so many things you could say about this movie. Just watch it and enjoy it. It is just a movie. The seemingly pathetic patient becomes part of the family. It gets really crazy. Lire l'avis complet...

Great Title

This Movie is hilarious. Bill Murrays' portrayal of an anxiety ridden phobic puts new light on a devastating mental illness, with his ever so manic and comedial, limitless "search" to obtain enlightenment and recovery. I have been searching for a copy of this oldy, but not moldey comedy for some time. I'm so glad it has come back up to surface again. This movie is a definitive cure for the every day blues, by giving a clear, (Bill Murray Style), example of how our behaviors and reactions to life are reflected upon the others' around us. Thank You Dr. David for recommending this movie. It got me up, out of bed, and cruising in my Beautiful, Black Caddy again. What do I have to worry about compared to Bob? I survived being rearended by an 800,000 pound Semi on the Interstate. But now I have a comical view of how my resulting illness has sent many a Dr., therapist, friends, and family members shaking their heads and pulling their hair out every time they "can get me" to turn away. I also want to thank my friend, "Dr. Martin" for his own Rx for my quest to recovery, "Take a few Zanax and have a Drink." Frankly "Dr. Martin" your treatment has been beneficial, but "What about Bob?" seems to be offering some, more long-term medicinal quality, but, as they say in Hollywood, "What-ever makes your boat float!"
Don't miss experiencing "What About Bob?". Can I order two dozen more copies for Friends and Family members?
- Mindy
P.S. Thanx again Dr. David, You will Forever Be in My Heart! I hope You too are enjoying your new employment. Maybe you should get a copy too...

Hilarious movie! Never gets old!

What About Bob? is a hilarious blend of charm, drama, and wit. The genius storyline of a psychotic adult man, played by Bill Murray as "Bob", makes the movie bound to take unsuspected turns that make it all the more interesting. I personally have seen this movie at least 15 times, and I will have to say that it never gets old. It also features Bob's psychiatrist, Richard Dreyfuss as "Dr. Marvin", who takes his family on vacation to Lake Winnipassaki in order to get rid of problems for reasons very much because of clients like Bob. Bob is thunderstruck when he finds out Dr. Marvin will be leaving for a month, because he finds himself hopeless without Dr. Marvin's live counseling with the "Baby Steps Therapy". He does everything in his power to get in touch with Dr. Marvin, including faking suicide and pretending to be the Dr.'s beloved sister Lily, until he finally somehow comes in contact with his vacation adress. Dr. Marvin is horrified when Bob tracks him down and orders him to leave. But no, he is Bob. This means that he basically spends the next few days winning over the Dr.'s family, which creates quite a contrast with their previously so-called "kind of fun" father. In the end, after Bob steals the show on an interview with Good Morning America on Dr. Marvin's debut of the book "Baby Steps", Dr. Marvin attempts to kill Bob by placing bombs around his neck, which Bob somehow gets out of and places in the house and leaves it to nothing but ashes in 30 seconds. Bob ironically has driven Dr. Marvin, the world-class psychiatrist, crazy and into a state of shock and confusion. The movie is capped off with Bob's marriage with Dr. Marvin's sister Lily. This movie is a classic full of geniune humor that I would recommend to anyone from the ages of 2-200.Lire l'avis complet...
