Old Tech

No mechanical drive will ever match the speed of an SSD. However, if you need a drive for Windows Vista or some other OS that doesn't support the TRIM command, this may be a more reliable choice. I have a couple of Vista machines. One acts as a media server that doesn't need to be super fast and the other is needed to run older software that isn't supported by Windows 7 or later, even in compatibility mode. I don't want to run a VM due to hardware limitations in the VM. The Velociraptor is the best choice for me in these limited cases. Plus I have extra copies of Vista from upgrading to Windows 7. On a side note, always buy either a retail version of the software or at least an OEM. Avoid the confusion and headache associated with the update versions. When purchasing a used drive, try to find those that were used in a server environment. As a rule, they are turned on and run until just before the warranty runs out. Kind of like buying a car with all "highway miles". I expect that the drive will give me at least several years more of reliable service. I have another Velociraptor that I bought when it was 3 years old. It's 8 years old now and still runs like new. Your mileage may vary, but for 40 bucks, it's worth the gamble.Lire l'avis complet...

I still trust hard drives more than SSDs.

Ever since a 2nd generation virtually new Intel 60GB SSD failed on me without any warning, I've been drifting back to conventional hard drives, especially the 10,000 rpm Velociraptors which now sell on eBay for a fraction of their original retail price. 20 - 30,000 hours doesn't seem to faze them. I'm only a little cautious when I get one with 1000+ Start/Stops (i.e., "count" in Crystal Disk). With one of those, I'll always do frequent backups, or keep a cloned version on an SSD for emergencies.Lire l'avis complet...

Fabulous drive

I have several of these running in a Mac Pro in a RAID setup!! These are super fast and reliable. 2 of my drives are almost 10 years old and still going strong, never had any hiccups with either. I highly recommend these drives!!!Lire l'avis complet...

Very nice product, will always use these.

Been using these hard drives for a few years now, haven't had a single problem with either the smaller ones or the larger ones. Very fast and reliable even with slight abuse (dropping). 5 stars across the board.Lire l'avis complet...

You will not be disappointed with this drive

I love this drive! Purchased this one for a RAID 1 setup on my development machine. If you do some shopping, you'll find they're very inexpensive in the used market so an excellent value for upgrading your old 5,400 RPM sleds.Lire l'avis complet...

Good performance small capacity

Works good and very fast. Wish this level of performance wasn't so expensive but not much can be done about that.
