First of all, there used to be two product listings for this hard drive, both identical except for the ASIN numbers. One was listed as the stand alone, the other was listed in the Western Digital Scorpio Blue page with the pull-down menu that has all the different sized drives in the series. I have no idea what the difference is. Amazon, for some reason, took down the 500 GB listing from the pull-down menu and it now has it's own page. Odd they chose that direction. It would have made more sense to remove the individual listing.

Ok, this is for PS3 owners/upgraders. This drive fits the PS3 wonderfully and runs nice and cool with no issues. For the price you can't go wrong. I have the 40 GB PS3 (Spider Man 3 bundle) and have the data (saves + install) of about 10 games and I was running out of space. I did a lot of research of the various SATA 2.5" laptop hard drives available. I researched all the various brands and compared reviews and prices vs size. I came to the conclusion that a 500 GB drive for $100 is a steal given the extra space gained, so that's the direction I went. Of all the brands, the Western Digital Scorpio Blue series seemed to have the most positive reviews all over with the least amount of reviews stating drive failure, so that's the one I chose.

Installing was extremely easy after backing up my data. The longest part of the whole procedure was backing up and restoring the data. I won't go into details, but I do recommend the app another reviewer used to format an external drive larger than 32GB in the FAT32 file system. It's called "fat32format". It works extremely well and extremely fast (less than 4 seconds for a 120GB external drive). Just follow the directions and you're good. I did this because in order for the PS3 to recognize the external drive it has to be formatted in the FAT32 file system. As for the procedure of upgrading the PS3, just google "upgrade PS3 hard drive" and you'll get tons of tutorials and videos.

Now here's something important: A lot of people who upgraded their PS3's and saw xxx/465 GB free after upgrading are not realizing that this is not the fault of the PS3. You could put the same drive in a laptop and it will have the same 465GB. This is because manufacturers advertise a gigabyte as something different than what windows or the PS3 recognize. Manufacturers see a gigabyte (GB) as 1000 megabytes, and 1 megabyte (MB) as 1000 kilobytes (KB), when in actuality windows sees 1 MB as 1024 KB. So that's where the unaccounted lost space goes.

So as of now, my opinion is that this hard drive is a great choice for PS3 upgrades. If you don't want to drop a bill on the 500GB version they also have the Scorpio Blues in smaller sizes for reduced prices. Great PS3 HD Upgrade

After scouring the internet for many months now looking for an inexpensive hard drive I finally decided that I would want to buy this Western Digital. I didn't want anything super fast (its not gonna make that much of a difference in load times in my PS3 since its not a SSD) and way too much. This is one of the least expensive hard drives that I could find. A great hard drive that was relatively easy to install in my PS3 (besides those stupid little screws on the hard drive enclosure in the PS3) and was quick to format. After installing my backup my PS3 was ready to rock. Its been about 2 weeks now and no sign of any problems. i love the hard drive. its a great buy. would buy again from this seller if i get more money and or computer repair work. the hard drive got here rather quickly. my only wish it not the seller's doing, but rather Western Digital. in this case i find the hard drive a little on the slower side as far as what i need it to do. For my particular applications, i need an HDD that runs at 7200 RPM or higher, but for the standard user, it runs great. i benchmarked it running at over 50 MBps (thats megabytes, not Mbps.) thats not bad really. i have nothing majorly negative to say about this drive. Also it could be that my laptop does not have the "SATA II" or SATA 300 interface, but rather "SATA I" or SATA 150. over all i recommend this drive to anyone who os on a budget and doesnt need too much storage. Great product and great price worth the research

I purchased a laptop on ebay and I wanted to upgrade the memory before I did anything else with it. The 320GB SATA hard drive is the largest I've seen and by doing the research on ebay I got it at a great price. If you're someone that uses your laptop as a desktop or for a lot of things it's a great size hard drive to have installed. great drive

i love this drive because it just fits well in my laptop and did not have any problems with transferring my data from the old one. i decided to buy it because it was a bigger hdd than i had in my laptop. this is a great investment . the other thing is that it is same model of the hdd that iahad in my laptop. the only difference is the capacity. so far it has been working well. no glitches.Lire l'avis complet...

Good product.

I bought this drive to upgrade the hard drive in my Apple TV... cant understand why apple has such low capacity drives in them... but, I copied all the system info over to the WD drive was able to use the full capacity of it, minus the few MB's used for the OS, with no problems. I see a faster response with the new drive, but that may be because it is not as full as the old drive was... But still, it was worth the money.Lire l'avis complet...

Always a solid drive, even used/refurb. WD has always been top of their game with hard drives, having a lower failure rate than any other manufacturer. They are now leading the way with newer, high capacity drives with their He6 (Helium) series via the HGST brand. I've used these drives for years in my own systems, as well as customer systems. Overall I prefer Western Digital hard drives, they are quiet and very reliable. The blue label is and outstanding buy.
