Excellent speed/performance

I bought this unit off eBay used for a very reasonable price of just under $70 shipped.

I've had external HD's before but this is my first SATA to USB 2.0 drive enclosure. All of the other ones I've used were PATA (IDE) to USB 2.0 drives.

The throughput is excellent with 5 gigabytes of large files taking about 8 minutes to transfer.

Batches of smaller files take significantly longer (almost double the amount of time) but all hard drives have the same problem with large batches of small sized files.

The enclosure is excellently constructed. The only thing I didn't like about its was that the power supply is proprietary. If one were to ever loose the power brick that came with it, it would become a paper weight. One of my other external enclosures has an internal power supply and uses a standard computer power cord. I am using this WD 750gb SATA drive as a backup to my C: drive, loosing the power brick shouldn't be an issue, since the hard drive wont be moving from next to my computer.

The only downside being such a small thing, I rate this HD/enclosure combo as an excellent buy. It provides a awesome amount of storage and a great transfer rate for the money.Lire l'avis complet...

The WD7500AAKS's basic specs are quite evolutionary. WD maintains the tried-and-true four-platter approach to achieve the drive's 750-gigabyte capacity. As has been the case with Caviar-style drives for years now, the firm specs the unit's average seek time at 8.9 milliseconds. Buffer size remains at 16 megabytes, standard for most of today's SATA units.

With this iteration, however, WD brings a couple new features to the table aimed at further refining reliability and power consumption. The first is an improved ramp load paradigm, a feature that parks the unit's read/write heads far away from delicate platters while the drive is powered off, ostensibly increasing non-operating shock resistance.

The WD7500AAKS's other newer feature is the company's "IntelliSeek" technology, a just-in-time approach that aims to minimize power draw. As we all know, today's hard drives feature rotating platters upon which hundreds of millions of individual sectors rest. In typical non-streaming use, data from a relatively small gathering of sectors is retrieved/written before the actuator then moves to the next group. Western Digital SATA 750gb Drive

It has been a awhile since I purchased this drive and for the price of under $40.00 it is doing much more than expected. Using 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate this drive does the job. I am using it as an Drive D for all of my data and downloads. This drive impressed me so that I purchased another on little over $40.00 this time but it was well worth it. I can honestly say even new or used performace will be the same.
I don't want to get to tech on this but I am sure people will get the message.
There is only on thing I forgot to mention is that these drives run pretty warm so you might want to get purchase a hard drive cooler. The ones that sit in the drive day.

Works great. Got it quick.

I use this specific drive in a home cloud NAS that uses mirroring. The drives re-mirrored as soon as I installed this replacement and it’s been humming along since. Good buy.

Awesome product! Great value for the money!

We added it to our home server. It is preforming well and has expanded our storage capabilities. There is nothing to dislike about this hard drive. This hard drive has superior performance.

this is a great hard drive that i paid less than $60 for. i have had zero issues and am beyond happy with my purchase.

Is a good HD. Put it in a NAS box I have and seems to be doing everything I wanted. Will be looking for more later.
