Warpaint - Rocking the World in the Same Old Way

Listening to "Warpaint" reminded me of how scarce releases on the field of old-style, easy-listening rock and roll music are these days. Today you can find one or another group that deserves at least a little respect for trying to make good music, but no band or individual artist in activity today does what the "Crowes" still do. They manage, since "Shake Your Money Maker" back in early 90s, to make rock music to be more enjoyable and less noisy. None of the previous "Crowes" releases disappointed me, and this is not different with this recent release.

"Warpaint" is the same Black Crowes that we, their long time fans, are used to hear. All songs are nicely sang by the unique Chris Robinson's voice (and also by the backing vocal singers) and carefully arranged and played by the rest of the gang. It's a formula that always worked and is still working well. They are one of the few bands around that doesn't really need to reinvent themselves from time to time. They are basically capable to play the same kind of music over and over through the years and yet avoid sounding too repetitive.

No special highlights in this album. All tracks range from a 4 to a 5-star rating. "Walk Believer Walk", "Oh Josephine", "Locust Street" and "Whoa Mule" are my personal favorites.Lire l'avis complet...

All Star puts on War Paint

Fans of the North Mississippi All Stars and The Black Crowes should both enjoy this CD. I have liked the Crowes since they first came out, and NMAS is one of my favorite newer bands. When I heard that NMAS guitarist Luther Dickinson was also going to be part of Warpaint as well as a touring member of The Black Crowes, it got me excited to hear this CD. When I got it, I was pleased to hear that Dickinson's slide guitar and other riffs fit right in with the stew of the Crowes first CD of new music in several years. Now I am hoping to catch a show by this version of The Black Crowes in the near future. And by the way, NMAS is still a band including Luther in the mix. Highly recommend Warpaint by the Black Crows they don't disappoint

Warpaint by the Black Crows is an incredible cd. They put a lot of work into this music and you can hear it. It's one of their newer cd's but it sounds like classic Black Crows from the 90's era.

Another almost good cd

1st thing I love the Black Crowes - But after the original Bass Player left the band just seems empty. They have said in interviews these songs were fresh and written & recorded in a few weeks & thats exactly what it sounds like. No real depth or any thing to say - just surface old hat Rock-n-Roll done Black Crowes style. It has it's moments but over all a bit on the dull side. They push no limits. Maybey just an excuse to tour disc. To a die hard fan it nice to have a listen but if you want to listen to some black Crowes go with any of the first four cd's.Lire l'avis complet...

Finaly new Black Crowes music!

It's hard to tell after first listening how god it is, but i'll definitly like it. Must admit that i have high expectation when it's BC's music involved and i have not been disapointed with new songs. Warpaint is CD that gets better and better with listening and i just can't get tired of it. I will put this between Amorica and Three Snakes and One Charm with spice from Shake Your Money Maker and The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. i realy loved this cd . Chris Robinson still has a great voice and the guitars work on this cd are great.hope to buy the next one soon!!!
