This is a bench-mark recording against which all subsequent are compared.
After many years of listening pleasure, I've realized that many a famous musical piece is just that - a piece of a whole. The fact that I was so taken with an individual piece almost always meant that I wanted more - if I exposed myself to the "whole" from which a particular piece was derived, I generally got what I was looking for.
Such is the case with this offering. But this is not just a little more - this will leave you in AWE ! perhaps shock !
The work itself was, and still is, audacious and monumental in its inception - and nearly impossible to produce. This recording was the first attempt to record "The Ring Cycle" in its etirety - deliberate in purpose. And the care taken is apparent. Fate destined that the performers cast, and their perfomances, be stuff of legend, also - wonderous performances captured !
