Great boxed sets

I don't have HBO so my sister and I have been watching True Blood via buying each season on DVD. I got season 1-3 all used, so these were a great price considering they're essentially brand new. I really love the folding display that holds the 5 discs—they really are high quality boxed sets. One of them actually came with a bonus extra disc, which came in a separate paper pocket on the insert that comes packaged on the back with the season description. We're halfway through season 4 right now, and I've been liking the show more and more each season so far.Lire l'avis complet...

A great, exciting season

What can I say? Most all of us have seen it at least once. It's great even after the first time seeing it. I still enjoy it but I love the all of actors and the storyline. If you haven't seen it, buy it. You won't regret it.Lire l'avis complet...

Not as good as season one

While this is still an excellent adaptation of Harris' novels this season lacked in comparison to season one. It seemed Ball wrote himself into a corner with Maryanne that he just couldn't escape from. I would have love to see the development more of the vamps and Godric than the Maryann plot which went on and on with no clear ending until Ball just finally killed the characters introduced with that storyline.

It seems Ball forgot why the fans love True Blood. He missed the boat with so little devoted to Godric and Allan Hyde's amazing performance as the character. Instead we got endless scenes from soap actress Ashley Jones whose accent and performance was flat and uninspiring.

As a fan of the books I don't mind the diversions from Harris' cannon however Ball's diversions were not just from Harris but the heart of why fans love True Blood.

review

While this is still a very good show, it's already come dangerously close to jumping the shark (jumping the Sook?), in just it's second season. I wanted to give it 3 1/2 stars but that's not possible here. I just couldn't bring myself to give it four, so I went with three.
For starters, the show has veered much too far off on a tangent concerning the Maenad Maryann, and many, many viewers have been frustrated by it. Too little time was spent on the vampires of Dallas, which I found to be far more interesting. Too much attention was also spent on the Jason/Fellowship of the Sun arc, which was a deviation from the book series. All in all, there was too much "filler" to get to the good stuff.
The penultimate episode (#11, "Frenzy") was a disconcerted illogical mess with few highlights, and the portrayal of the vampire Queen of Louisiana, despite Evan Rachel Ward's beauty, left much to be desired, for whatever reasons. I think Holly Valance, who played "Lola" in the (now regrettably defunct) Moonlight episode "B.C" would've worked out better. "Frenzy" is widely regarded as by far the worst episode of the series so far, for various reasons.

Still, inevitably, many characters have been been interestingly further fleshed out from the first season, adding depth to the series; notably, Eric, Pam, Sam, Jason, Tara and her mother, but mostly the effervescent Lafayette, played by the very talented Nelsan Ellis. While many deviations from the books have been made, some good, some bad, the decision to keep the character of Lafayette alive was definitely a good move. We also get to see, briefly, the darker, more powerful side of Eric. Anna Paquin is playing the role she was born to play, she just shines in her role as Sookie, and all in all, the cast is amazing, despite some lapses in judgement this year from the writing staff.

dvd - true blood season 2

i read all of the books prior to the series & continue to keep up with any new additions. thoroughly enjoyed the books. the tv version is maybe 30% true to the books as far as plots are concerned. transition from book to screen is never easy, but the screen version is enjoyable. would not recommend it for kids (way too much sex, blood & ugly language). i am a fan of the paranormal (vampires, ghosts & things that go bump in the night). so if the paranormal is enjoyable to you then this is a must see series. characters range from vampires to werewolves to witches to fairies to shapeshifters!!Lire l'avis complet...

True Blood The complete Second Season

It is wrapped beautifully.....in its own private and protective case. I don't subscribe to HBO but watched an couple of episodes at a friend's house.....It is so great to see how it all began.. This HBO Show is really top quality and leaves very little to the imagination. I really enjoy the soundtrack. They use different popular venues (Rock, Blues, Country, etc.) and that adds a lot to the show...
There are commentaries and some extra scenes that didn't make the cut. The show itself is totally enjoyable and while not a true believer of Vampires, this show gives you food for thought.
I liked Twilight and thought that this might also be good. It did not disappoint...
The price was more than reasonable... I found that the combination of 1st and 2nd Seasons was well over $90 and I paid under $50 with FREE shipping... It is one of those famous EBAY purchases that you read about but don't always find.
If you like vampires that are not all looking for humans to kill, then give this a try.....It really is enjoyable.....

Oddly Realistic

While this show is filled with vampires, shape-shifters, werewolves, and several other magical creatures, the writers have done a fantastic job creating a realistic society in which these creatures have been proven real. The resultant curiosity, turmoil, and fear is colored by prejudice and preconceived hatred, which do seem to occur whenever a new group of different or special individuals is unearthed.

However be warned that this show, in true HBO fashion, contains frequent sex scenes and violent/bloody images. This season especially has constant blood and gore, usually combined with the sex scenes. It IS about vampires afterall.

I would highly recommend watching the first season first, as most of the plot twists and revelations about characters would make absolutely no sense to someone who has not seen the show before. The easiest way to not have you freaking out and/or scratching your head confusedly at this show is to watch all of the episodes in order.

Despite almost constant gore and considerably-more-than-just-racy sex scenes, I do suggest watching the series. It is not some Twilight-esque happy fairytale land where everyone is fine with the existance of mythical creatures; this series is dark and really gives the viewer a lot to think about (once they get past the raunchy-ness). The characters are very real, and everyone seems to have their own motive and drive throughout the series. Even the characters that would usually be considered carricatures of people (or vampires) have a descriptive and usually disturbing past that slowly becomes unveiled during the series, making them more real and relatible with every episode.

WARNING: DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW UNLESS YOU CAN HANDLE LOTS OF GORE AND RAUNCHY SEX SCENES. YOU PROBABLY DO NOT WANT TO WATCH THIS ON YOUR FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT.

Ahhh Sookie-Sookie nowwwwwww...........(say that fast)

It's not often you come across a TV show that's simply just FUN! Although Tru Blood doesn't completely follow the book series, the show's producers have infused some excellent story telling surrounding the realm of Tru Blood.

I've seen other shows, like the Sopranos and Spartacus: Blood And Sand and hands down, Tru Blood wins in those arenas. Why? Simply because it's all fun. It's not filled with historical facts or something that might be happening in, oh lets say, Jersey. It's fake. And it's fun.

The story is fun, the direction is fun, the characters are fun.

So what's not to like?

Excessive whining - from Terra. Lots of it. I usually fast forward through it because quite honestly, the ONE character that didn't exist in the books, is now in a tv series and it's seriously dragging the show down a bit. Her tribulations are boring and trivial and really provide absolutely no major impact in the storyline.

A great show and a great buy - you all should think about this series.

Addicting and very engaging

I like the acting of the characters and of course the interesting plot. Although I find some scenes to be very repetitive, and some episodes really drags on, I mean, it's still an enjoyable series to start on. I'm currently on Season 2.Lire l'avis complet...

True Blood!

The second season lived up to the first season for fans. The show has an amazing cast. Sometimes even, the supporting cast is enjoyed more than the main characters, which makes this show so good. When the main character's story lines get annoying at times, the supporting characters fill it with great story lines for all of them. The ensemble makes this show, giving everybody who watches something to enjoy, whether it is Sookie the vampire loving and telepathic main character; Lafayette the outspoken, gay cook of the town bar; Tara, Sookie's troubled and troubling best friend; or even Arlene the obnoxious, red-headed waitress. Fans won't be disappointed with this season and the evil the encompasses this season will definitely keep you wondering until the end.Lire l'avis complet...
