In a word...'AAARGH!'

A classic sea epic since 1950, to be sure. Robert Newton's performance as Long John Silver remains "sheer pirate poetry" to this day, with strong support and heart from Bobby Driscoll's portrayal of the impressionable Jim Hawkins.

(Note to 'Doctor Who' fans... I noticed Patrick Troughton is listed in the end credits, as the pirate named 'Roach.' I scanned back through the film to find him. He appears most notably in the stockade attack scene, where he breaks in, aims his pistol---scowling in extreme closeup---squarely at Captain Smollett, but is batted aside by Jim. Dr. Livesay then makes short work of him in a cutlass duel.)

As for the DVD copy: good playback, no glitches, good condition, neat clamshell case. Good investment.Lire l'avis complet...

Great movie, great price!

I loved this movie! The DVD disc is in great shape and the quality of the picture on my screen was sharp. I am happy to add this early Disney classic to my DVD film library. I was getting the series, so hey, why not the original?

At the time I bought this DVD online, I had also bid on and won from another seller a 2-disc box set of LONG JOHN SILVER, THE SERIES, starring Robert Newton. And so, since I was getting the series anyway, it seemed a shame not to include a copy of the Disney film that spawned it. Conveniently priced by Surrey Movie Store of Canada, this seemed a proper choice. Of course, the covers of both this film and series set, served an even greater purpose last month. They fit nicely into a line-up of pirate film DVD covers in my front window, as part of a PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Halloween Diorama! The trick-or-treaters ate it up. Some even posed in front while their parents took snapshots. Even the candy was pirate treasure: gold and silver chocolate candy coins and M&M's Pirate Pearls. A pirate's life! YO-HO-HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM!

Treasure Island

Ahoy Mateys and it is time you saw the Pirate of all Pirates---That's right, Robert Newton in Disney's Classic Treasure Island!! My family and I thought Johnny Depp and the new Disney movie series of Pirates of the Caribbean was great. However, my Family had no idea there was better Pirate movie with characters that are as classic as the images that I remembered as a young lad. Robert Newton as Long John Silver is the ICON of all Pirates and look no further than the great Ebay sellers to get your hands on this movie treasure. There is no computer trickery to create monsters and mayhem. The characters bring your imagination to life in the best Pirate Movie that ever sailed the seven seas. I looked around my local town for this classic and the young clerks had no idea this existed and the stores did not carry this movie. It is then I realized one place would have this movie and my thoughts were correct. I found it and bought it on Ebay. My family and I watched this classic and all agreed--this is indeed a masterpiece with a larger than life Buccaneer--Robert Newton as Long John Silver!! A true classic

Robert Newton was a true Pirate at heart. His role has never been matched as Long John Silver. A pure delight to view such great actors putting their all into this Disney Classic.

Ahrrr! Return Once More....

Ahoy! Matey! Back in the day! I finally have my own copy! Loved this when I was in short pants and would whip about with a handy stick. Good costumes, beautiful scenery, and excellent characterizations.

Treasure Island...Disney's Classic...

The character 'Long John Silver' is as good as it gets for the classic pirate. This was Disney's first live action film and also in color. Robert Newton is awesome as Captain Silver and set the bar for a one-legged pirate with a pet parrot,'Captain Flynn' who rides around on his shoulder speaking...'Peaces Of Eight....' And they do a great job with Robert Louis Stevenson's Classic Tale of buried treasure on a tropical island. A tale of treachery and friendship, of greed and trust. Treasure Island....a real treasure

There have been several versions of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island produced, but none have met the standards created in this, the first full length all-action movie produced by Disney. No one has ever matched the characterizing performance of Robert Newton as Long John Silver, or the childish heroism of Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins. I first saw this film as a youngster in c1950, and it still has the wondrous attraction today as it did then.....of course there isn't the blood flows when someone is injured or killed as there is in modern films, but that ain't all bad. All in all, it's a film to sit down and enjoy with the whole family. Who knows? One may become interested in reading other of Stevenson's works.Lire l'avis complet...

Treasure Island is a treasure itself

I love this movie. They just don't make movies the way they used to. This movie is just raw, and natural, with excellent acting, and beautiful cinematography. You really feel a part of the movie. Not only that, it shows us all, both avid movie buffs and filmmakers alike, that a movie can be very well made, and ensure a wonderful movie experience for the audience, without the use of one single curse word. I highly recommend this movie to anyone, especially those that love Walt Disney movies, and to those who feel gravitated to the era of classic pirateering.Lire l'avis complet...

Well worth sharing with your kids and grandkids.

I enjoyed this particular edition with my boys when they were growing up and purchased it for some of my granchildren to enjoy as well. We watched it together, ages 5,7&7 years and all of them, to include my grandaughter were enthralled. I thought it was very well acted and the adventure and action in the movie kept a good enough pace to hold their interest. The boy in this movie I think was the key showing bravery and a sense of right and wrong that he held to throughout the adventure. Long John Silver also was played well by the actor in this. His basic character was bad but the bond he had with Jim kept him from totally being evil as he made some effort to protect Jim at times. That favor was reciprocated by Jim in the end as he helped Long John to escape rather then be taken back to England for trial. I would deffinately buy this again and was glad to have shared it with my grandkids.Lire l'avis complet...
