19 Years + Worldwide of Stuff (not just the toys here)

Are you a "completest"? Sure you may have all the figures, but what about these in here?

From 1984 to 2003, this book has collected some fascinating artifacts from around the world. I don't claim to have everything myself, but it's just nice to see what other memorabilia other collectors around this globe has and to call their own. Back in the day, sure I remember loads and loads of figures on cards and boxes, filling shelves in stores like Woolco, Zellers, Toy City, K-Mart, Consumers Distributing, etc. But you could have also found TF-related merchandise in other non-department and non-toy stores. I'm sure you passed up on some of those items, and I'm also sure your parent(s) also bought you a few of these non-toy items, which most likely you gave them to your friends at school...(ahem, sorry mom + dad). Fast forward to the 1990s (when most of us kinda "grew up"); replaced were the cool toys when we were "young", with G2 and then Beast Wars. It was the beginning of Transformers to expand beyond just toys and mere trinkets.

This book, gives you a visual history of the trinkets you have have passed up or buried in the basement/attic. I look back now at some of the pictures, and I say to myself, "I should have kept it" or "I should have sold it at a later date". I'm in Canada, so obviously I've had access to buy more or less the same merchandise as the US. The most fascinating items are ones from Europe and Japan. I won't go into detail as I'm sure you've seen some wacky stuff on fan-sites or own some of them. So you'll have to either get your own copy or save those sites in your bookmark.

This book breaks down the various 19 years of worldwide nick-knacks into several categories...

Chapter 1 - "Many Random Things" - collector cases, cards, key chains, stickers, watches, and even bobble-heads! Obviously I left out a few items :p

Chapter 2 - "Arts and Crafts" - Paint, pencils, erasers, coloring books, and even that transforming puzzle (you know the one I'm talking about)

Chapter 3 - "Birthday" - Yep that stuff you got on your birthday that you probably used once then threw away or got as a birthday gift and used it till it broke :p

Chapter 4 - "Electronics" - Walkie-talkies, Lite-Brite, and even that train set.

Chapter 5 - "VHS + DVD" - Before all the sets of DVDs came out, we had to rely on the ol' VCR. Even right before DVDs was the new thing, Rhino released a small number of eps on VHS...probably to test the waters. Then some of us regretted getting those tapes since we can have entire seasons in a boxset.

Chapter 6 - "Stuff to Wear" - Some of you probably took your toys out to go to a restaurant, and lost a accessory or 2. We don't have to show off our fandom like that, we can just wear all kinds of shirts. This section also shows off those kids costumes you probably wore. Plus more.

Chapter 7 - "Comics" -Comic covers from Marvel through to Dreamwave. Also included are covers from magazines and kid books.

Chapter 8 - "PVCs + more" - Pics of Japan's SCF Acts of PVCs including MyClones, Heroes of Cybertron, and busts by Hard Hero.

In total of 185 pages of colorful pics of nostalgia or use as a checklist.

Negatives: (nothing's ever perfect)
-some pics could've been much bigger
-lots of wasted unused space
-prices are outdated, it's from 2003
-not enough foreign items

Overall, an excellent book. Pardon the pun, but it's a good bookmark of many items available for North American collectors as of 2003. Awaits for updated one...

transformers gadgets book

Good book for Transformers toy fans. It's about the gadget of Transformers G1 (but not on the transformers toys!). Well written and very nice photos for the collectors.
