Fantastic results!
One of my children has always struggled with rote memorization tasks, and learning his multiplication tables was no different. We tried many different ways to help my child learn them, including repeated practice, but without any significant success. We tried Times Tales after a friend suggested it, having heard good things about it from someone else she knew. We got it and were thrilled and astounded with what a difference it made. After just the first hour my child was demonstrating a strong grasp of the lower number multiplication tables, and was enjoying the process. Sort of amazed!
I have two kids: ages 6 and 9. I primarily bought this for my oldest, obviously. We just got done watching the first (of two) 30-minute segments. By the end of it, both of my kids were shouting out the answers, even my (barely) 6-year-old! The video essentially teaches kids cute, short stories. The stories contain the answers. Frankly, I was hesitant to accept this method of teaching at first since his video does not teach how to compute/"do" math, rather to memorize stories...but as I thought about it, that's really what we do with multiplication/division anyway - we memorize boring math facts. This is just a fun way to memorize those facts. My kids don't have speed with the answers yet, but I'm guessing if they watch the video one or two more times, they will have that down too. The video recommends at least a week in between doing the first and second segments. I'm guessing this is so that children don't confuse the stories. They really need to learn the stories. The DVD also comes with a computer disc to print off helpful supplemental worksheets that are a good way to reinforce the video. Even though the DVD is simple/slow (which is probably why my first-grader picked it up so quickly), overall, quite pleased with this! Great Product!
The DVD is fun, engaging and it really does help children learn and remember times tables. I didn’t give it 5 stars because the CD-ROM that came with it to print all of the activities does not work. I I have tried different computers but still nothing. I had to use random worksheets that I found on the internet just so she can get some practice. Surprised and impressed!
We got this since my son has been having trouble remembering his multiplication tables. He had the smaller ones down pat but the uppers had been giving him trouble. I would recommend this big time!!! He already memorized almost all of the uppers and he's only watched it about 6 times. I was shocked at the rate of speed at which he picked this up. 10 stars. right brain kids
I taught elementary math for years,and have various strategies for teaching times tables, none of which were effective for our right brain special needs son.
