Really nice Masters-themed golf sim

Although I haven't played it much yet, what I've seen so far has been great. Best golf sim I've come across, and being a huge fan of the Masters tournament, I love the fact that you can play this course and that the whole game is themed around that. The swing mechanics and putting take some getting used to, but every game has its control quirks, and you just have to practice to get comfortable and skilled at the various shots. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the game and would recommend it to anyone who wants a solid, well designed, and immersive golf simulation that lets you play all 18 holes of Augusta National (along with numerous other famous, world class courses). For now, it's very likely the closest you can get to doing it in person. I probably wouldn't pay full retail price for it, but it's easily worth $20 if you're into golf sims.Lire l'avis complet...

Fun but with issues!

Fun game that eats up time. In the PGA tour mode it seems to be impossible to compete with pro golfers that score 20 under par on a daily basis. I shot a 60 and was still in 128th place out of 128. Also there is no servers to update the game and/or to play online. It was just a game I hadn't played in over 5 years and decided to give it another whirl. I had the regular edition and there was a lack of golf courses and without a EA server there was no way to get other courses. Buying the Masters edition gave me more courses to play and it seamlessly used my golfer that I had been working on so it was all good. I gave it a 4 star despite the drawbacks as it is a fun game to distract me from my illness.Lire l'avis complet...

Great graphics, more complicated (in a good way) game play; lots'o'players

I have had a great deal of experience playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2011. I liked the game enough that I thought about buying up the 2012 version. Alas, after all of the HORRIBLE reviews, I didn't bother with 2012.

But reviews for the Masters Collectors' edition for 2013 made me want to revisit the game. I tried it out at a local GameStop. And after about 5 minutes of playing it...I bought it.

So what made me opt to buy it? Here's what I saw that made me want it:

1. Graphics (9/10) - Graphics on 2011 were good, but 2013 are just a bit better. The motion of the swings is far smoother and the views of each hole (and of the greens in particular) look very life-like.

2. Game Play (8.5/10) - Yes, I was used to 2011 and I knew all the tricks to hitting the ball regardless of where it would lay. But 2013 actually CHALLENGES you as a player. And the swing meter has been replaced with an actual swing arc! That took me a solid month after I bought the game to get used to. But it was worth it! Now, my swings are more precise, AND it has actually helped my REAL golf swing (thanks to using the PS Move controllers).

3. PS3 Move Controller integration (10/10) - FINALLY! A game that actually makes PERFECT use of the controller! It actually makes this game more fun, and it's helped me understand my own swing habits and it's starting to break some of those negative habits. It allows for far greater control. And, dare I say, that added control makes the game more fun (and more frustrating).

4. Courses (9.5/10) - Ok..so the Masters Collector's Ed gives you far more courses than the "regular" version. That's good. And it appears (at least so far) that you don't actually HAVE to make credit card purchases to gain access to other courses. Now, you will have to pay perfectly and complete several tasks to "PERFECT" a course and thus own it for unlimited play. However, if you'd rather pay for the course, EA lets you do that too.

5. Overall Golfers (9.9/10) - There are a ton of golfers you can choose to play as...or you can create your own. I like playing as myself, and combined with the PS Eye, this game makes it relatively painless to do so.

6. Online play (10/10) - Simply put, online play is great. You can create your own lodge or join one that already exists. You play in tournaments, and the points earned help to unlock specific features of the game (this IS a good thing). I love it!

7. Less Intrusive Caddy (9/10) - THANK GOD! Your caddy can make recommendations, but not all of them will always be perfect. You really have to understand what you want your next shot to be and where you want it. The caddy can be ignored or he can be of some help. He's MINT on the greens, but otherwise...meh.

Then there are things that I didn't like so much:

1. Playing through Tiger Woods youth (4/10) - Um...let's just say it's lame. It's nice for little kids, but it's far too boring for any adult (and I think most people that play will be adults).

2. Course Pins (5/10) - I admit I'm still getting used to this, but to me it seems like a half baked idea at best. Before you play a tournament, you can place "pins" that act to boost up your golfer's abilities in some specifc ways. But you're limited in how often you get to use them. Overall, I don't see a need for it.

So, overall, there's far more to like about The Masters than in previous versions. I say if you can find it...BUY IT!

Tiger Woods 13 the best golf game EVER!

In my opinion, this is the greatest Tiger Woods golf game to date! I've been playing EA Tiger Woods golf since 2001. And I have to say that the EA team have gone out of their way to make improvements to this game every single year. And they do this without any competiion! The same can't be said for EA Madden franchise. Madden keeps puting out the same game, ie. madden 2009 to 2012 was virtually the same game with only incremental improvements. Madden doesn't have any competition and they still give us the same crap 5yrs running now! Tiger's game has no competition and for some reason they still find a way to improve the game. Ok, I digress, lol.
But getting back to Tiger. The game features the likes of Bubba Watson, Rikki Fowler, Boo Weekly, Luke Donald which has all of their "facial features" btw. The only thing they need to do next is to implement the actual swings of the players and it will be perfect. I suspect they are working on that as we speak because that's how this EA team does it. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because the putting mechanics are a little wacky. Sometimes you have to keep pulling back the right analog stick 2 to 3 times to put the ball. Otherwise, a very solid game and worthy of a $60 purchase.

Great golf game, but...

The game is great! Only problem for me is the putting. In the 2012 version the putting on the greens was way easier. Besides that outstanding game.
