Series 2 TiVo Dual Tunar

The TiVo Series 2 Dual Tuner 40 GB was fairly easy to setup and learn how to use. My main complaint is that I can only record one show at a time. You can record one show while watching another which is good. You have your choice of video quality when recording. To be able to record more shows you have to chose the basic quality which seemed grainy to me in playback. In choosing a better video quality you sacrifice the amount of time/space you have for recording, which is annoying, but in reality shouldn't be a problem for me. I decided to buy this older model TiVo because I am on a budget and did not want to spend the money on a new, more expensive model. If finances improve in the future and I continue being happy overall with the product, I will more then likely upgrade to a model that records 2 shows at the same time while I watch another. Buying an older version used also allows you to try TiVo out without spending a lot of money upfront.Lire l'avis complet...

TiVo Series 2

I decided to buy the series 2 TiVo with lifetime service because I wanted to get my foot in the door with TiVo and to try out the service. I love being able to pause live TV and the season pass recording setup is sweet. I also like the networking features as far as being able to get to music and pictures and movies on networked computers, however, the wireless networking feature has been less than friendly. That has been the thing I have been most bummed about. It continually loses connection to the router. I'm also bummed a little over not having Netflix access. I forgot about this when I purchased the unit. All in all it was well worth the money as it came with upgrade option for a new unit with lifetime for a total savings of more than I paid for this unit, and this unit stays active even after the upgrade.Lire l'avis complet...

Nice product. Remember, you have to pay subscription fees monthly to TiVo.

I very much dislike paying TiVo a subscription fee, however, the unit is very high quality. Despite the high quality of the item, I would caution any buyer that you must understand you pay monthly subscription rates to TiVo. Once that is understood, the product operates flawlessly. I've had two units for well over a year and have no complaints about the product quality. The glow remote eats batteries like I've never seen in my life. Battery life is about 45 days for 4 AAA batteries.Lire l'avis complet...

Easy and organized way to record TV programming.

I bought my first TiVo for the ease of use. I have never been disappointed. If you are still trying to record TV with a VCR, you will love TiVo. It has an on screen list you can view, showing program names and when they were recorded. No more rewinding and fast forwarding to find a show. I highly recommend the lifetime subscription, used Tivos with lifetime are usually cheaper than what the subscription costs. When shopping on eBay, beware of sellers that use the term lifetime, but do not have the lifetime subscription on the box they are selling. TiVo has a program listing that is far and above, better than Comcast has on the converter box. It shows 8 channels at a time, compared to Comcast's 4 channels, and you can change a page at a time with the channel up/down buttons.( Comcast box makes you click through each channel plus an advertisement to go to the next page) The downside to TiVo is the hard drives don't last forever. I don't know if other DVR's have this weakness, but I assume they do. They generally last for years and can be replaced much cheaper than buying a whole new box.Lire l'avis complet...

Watch your programs when you want to, not when they're aired.

I love TIVO! I have had them for years. I would love to upgrade to the newest ones, but we do not have cable and over-the-air is not great here. So I still use the older versions. They record beautifully and automatically adjust if a program switches its normal day and time for some reason. It's easy, just set it and forget it. Then watch all your favorites when you ready to do so.Lire l'avis complet...

Tivo is a great product; almost indispensible with all of our busy days.

First, I must clarify that this is not the product that I bought. What’s shown here is a model with a “40 GB” hard disk – the standard product. What I bought was a model where the box was the normal one, but with a “80 GB” disk that the seller upgraded. The GB (gigabytes) of disc size is significant since the higher the number of GB, the more hours of shows that can be recorded and saved. I had a “40 GB” unit for several years that unfortunately failed. In upgrading to the higher capacity, I’ve gotten a significantly better unit. What I see as the most important consideration is the type of service that comes with the unit.

When you buy a TiVo unit, all you’re buying is the box. That’s relatively cheap. The real hit is what it will cost you to get the programming. You can get a plan where you pay a monthly subscription fee or you can buy a lifetime service plan. The month isn’t cheap and the lifetime will cost several hundred dollars. Also, two things to be aware of:

First, the TiVo service is only for getting programming. It’s not any kind of warranty, repair, etc. Any of that will be at additional cost.

Second, the programming is linked to the UNIT. If the unit becomes unusable, you’ve lost your programming “investment” unless you get it fixed. If you buy a new unit, you have to buy a new programming deal.

So, in buying a TiVo, the programming arrangement is probably most important. When I was looking for a TiVo on EBay, I looked at those where the seller specified “lifetime”. Again, the way it works, I was buying the service that was associated with the “box”. Knowing that lifetime service is expensive, I was only interested in buying a “box” that already had the lifetime service.

Tivo!

I love everything about this Tivo! Set up was extremely easy. It took a little bit, but I have fairly slow internet. The guide is very easy to read, and I love having it. It records everything I want, it's so nice not having to remember when to watch my favorite TV shows. It doesn't get very hot which was a concern I had at first. It has a lot of space on the hard drive however my boyfriend and I will probably up grade it. It was a great deal with the included lifetime service. Tivo customer support was easy to deal with and there was no problem transferring our service into our names. I am 100% satisfied.Lire l'avis complet...

Works but there us a catch!

Came in mail quick! It does basic functions good pause, rewind, fast forward, play, slow play. But tivo no longer supports it so can't record. So basically a waste of my money. Can't believe eBay would allow this to be sold! I can do what I said above with it. So I will use it for that and not keep it connected to tivo as afraid they may stop it from even doing that!Lire l'avis complet...

These DVR Series 2 DVR

I discovered after buying a series 2 TiVo DVR that TiVo will no longer sell you service plans for them. They will renew any service plans that the boxes have already but you cannot order service plans for TiVo Series 1 thru Series 3. Before you buy any of these DVR Boxes make sure that they already have a service plan that can be renewed otherwise your buying a very costly DTV converter box.Lire l'avis complet...
