South Beach, A Good Choice

The book is worth owning for the basic knowledge of South Beach. A lot of the recipes are more for 'high-end' eating but if you go by the basic food groups you will do well. Once you know what to eat and what not to eat you can pretty much gauge the rest of your diet without any help from the book. I've been on South Beach since March '08. I've lost 55 pounds. I decided to buy one for my sister who also struggles with her weight. I hope she gets the results that I did. It takes will power but the best part is that you can eat. You just need to learn how and what is best to eat. It's not a quick fix but I did lose 7 pounds in 2 weeks, then 1-4 pounds weekly after that. Let me tell you it works. I have not been keeping the diet the last 3 weeks and I've already put on 5 lbs. Excellent Introduction into how maintain a healthy diet

Great introduction into proper dieting. It had good examples about how and maintain a healthier diet life style. Serious readers will look past the weight loss benefits and look at this as a diet lifestyle. It will only wet your appetite for more information and lead to seek out more information from other sources. Starting the South Beach Diet

I bought this book for my college daughter and found that the whole family can benefit from it. I myself have Crohn's Disease and many of the recipes fit me as well. The book has so much common sense it really is misnamed calling it a "Diet" book. The book explains a painless way to alter your eating habits and provides you with alternate meals that are healthy and fulfilling. The South Beach Diet

I bought this book because I loaned mine out and never got it back. I love the recipes, the principles, and especially the information Dr. Agatson provides about our bodies and what we put in it. I am especially interested in the section on diabetes because I have several family members who are diabetic and I want to prolong that or avoid it all together if I can.

The South Beach diet is really a healthy way of life more than a diet. Following these princples will help you feel better, get or keep your heart healthy, and there is an added benefit of looking better as the weight comes off.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel better, have more energy, and or lose weight. It's not complicated!

I'd heard about the South Beach Diet and had seen the wonderful results from a neighbor being on it. Because it was obviously time for us to consider doing something, I decided to buy the book and read about it. That's all it took. I read the first part to my husband, and we agreed to try it out. We're now going into our third week (Phase 2), we're losing weight, and we're enjoying the food. It's a great book with easy to read explanations about eating or not eating foods, plus Dr. Agatson gives you daily menus and recipes to go by. So far so good

I should start off with a disclaimer that I have only scanned the book at this point and have not read it in full, but I'll happily share my initial impressions. I was looking for an effective diet that allows for a variety of foods, which I believe south beach does once you pass its initial stages. However, I am a little concerned about how time consuming it seems to follow the specific cooking guidelines. Must have if you have to lose a few

I ordered this book for the first time last year after hearing all the hype about this diet, and since I was still trying to take off some of my baby fat, I was hoping this book and diet would help me. This is a must have book, I have ordered this book not only for myself, but for many of my freinds and family. This is a great book on changing your lifestyle and diet. This is also an excellant book for anyone with heart problems or high blood pressure. I believe everyone should have this book in their kitchen, there are some excellant reciepes inside as well. South Beach stole my heart from Atkins

I was very impressed with the "ease" in reading this diet book from cover to cover. It was understandable and do-able. I must admit that at first I could not believe that the results I had achieved by Atkins could be topping by any other diet plan - but this book completely changed my mind. After only a few days of being on this plan - I fell in love with it. It had a wider variety of choices - and truly is a plan you can "live on" for life. I would highly recommend this book - and the other "South Beach" books (recipes, counters) to anyone looking to lose pounds quickly, safely and not have to go through major changes in "coming back in" to the real world... because you can be on this plan for life. The extra bonus is that the foods can be purchased processed too... by reputable makers (not having to buy online or special order) - or you can make them fresh yourself. I have never dieted before, so I was apprehensive of trying a "fad" diet. I was not too overweight (6'3" and 245 lbs.), but I needed to loose at least 20 lbs. This book claimed that I would loose 8-13 lbs. in two weeks. I decided to try it for those two weeks and if I lost within that range I would keep going. I lost 14 lbs.! In two weeks! This diet is so easy and I love everything I eat. Dr. Agatston explains the concept of how the diet works in the front half of the book, then the second half gives you recipes and lists of what to eat and not eat. It is so easy, even for someone like me (addicted to Wendy's french fries).
