THE SOUTH BEACH DIET

I bought this book because I saw the potential for my friend to lose weight. I have done this diet and lost 40 lbs in the course of 6 weeks and the first week I shed 10 lbs especially around my belly. The belly goes first. It is not an easy task at first but then you get use to not having all the carbs that are essentially bad for you. Then weeks three and four you are lighter you feel better because the two weeks in the beginning allows you to dispel alot of toxins. I also have poor circulation and this has given not only my blood a good cleansing but I look and feel healthy. I highly recommend this book. If you follow it with dicipline and conviction you would be amazed at the results. I dropped 4 dress sizes and looked younger and felt proud that I could do this for myself and not for anyone else. YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE PLAN IN ORDER TO SUCCEED. I really do not miss the junk food that I use to love so much. You would be amazed how you can live without the stuff that essentially kills you. good luck to anyone that can do it. I did my sister did and now my girlfriend who is 5'2" 165 lbs and she already lost 8 lbs in the first week and you can see the results almost immediately. She is thrilled and she is italian with the pasta and the cakes and cookies and in her first week no a stitch of pasta or any carb went into her mouth. GREAT FOR AMY MY BEST FRIEND. Well written guide for weight loss that really works!

I had been trying to loose an extra 10 pounds for 5 years and then a friend recommended this book, outlining the South Beach Diet. This is such a helpful book and here's why:
Dr. A wrote the book to help you day by day. You'll never have to wake up and wonder what to eat. He gives you menus, recipies and recommendations from other dieters. He also gives you the science of why it works and reference charts so you can adapt your own tastes to the diet.
It's also great because if you fall off the diet a bit, he'll get you back on plan. He even tells you how to order at a restaurant.
I read the book, followed the diet about 90% of the time and lost 12 pounds in 5 weeks. I eventually lost the cravings for bad carbs and felt so healthy! I then passed the book to my Mom and she lost the same amount of weight.
I just had a baby and plan to jump right back on the South Beach Diet. If you buy this book, you will use it every day on your diet. I've never bought any other diet guides, but mine is right next to my stove, is bookmarked and has sauce all over it! It's sooo worth it!

Every good comment said about this diet is true!

This is the best diet ever with the fastest results! I lost about 15-17 lbs. during a month of being on this diet. In fact, the South Beach Diet is no longer a "diet" but is now a 'lifestyle' for me! Also, it is not a "black and white" diet in that, if you slip-up and eat something 'forbidden' then your diet is forever sabotaged. It is the opposite with the SB diet...if you do slip-up you can always get back on the diet without sabotaging your achievements (provided you get back on it quickly and continue the plan of eliminating white bread, white flour, refined sugars and processed foods from your meals.)

After the initial weight, body fat and water loss, I am now able to take my body conditioning efforts to the next level...getting a lean body with tone muscles (albeit with the help of a personal trainer!) However, if it weren't for the SB diet, it would've taken me years to get to where I am right now!

Everything good that you've heard about this diet is absolutely true because it DOES GIVE YOU BONIFIDE RESULTS! And anything bad that you hear about the SB diet are from skeptics who have never tried the diet or have not followed the SB diet properly! So what have you got to lose (but that stubborn weight!) Go and give this diet a chance!!

UPDATE:

It's been almost 2 years now since I've started the SB diet and I'm proud to say that I'm now a size 2 and weigh 109 pounds! Overall, during the course of 2 years, I've lost 40-43 lbs. and was able to maintain my new ideal size and weight!

Everyone, this "healthy life style method" actually works!! I am still on it. Granted, I occasionally eat bread and sweets, but...I keep it at a minimum as per the diet. What I do is I indulge on bread OR sweets up to 3 times a week. I try not to do more than that. If I do, then I get back on the "strict" phase for a week or two.

Bottom line is:
I don't believe in endorsing anything that doesn't work and I believe and feel passionate in the SB so much that I am compelled to share it with you! This is the only "diet" that makes sense and that has worked for me!!

Not only a diet...a healthy lifestyle.

I bought his book for 1 reason...my kids. I have a few extra pounds left from pregnancy and my husband is the typical "apple shape" body that is a sign of long term heart problems. Although we are both middle aged and have no health issues right now, I decided we needed to adapt a healthier lifestyle since we have 2 small children that will be dependant on us for another 17+ years.

I've read the book and it sounds like a healthy lifestyle. Low carb diets have always been the way for me to lose weight. This is similar to low carb for 2 weeks but thn it allows "good carbs" back in. It takes away all the processed foods and replaces them with whole grains, fresh fruits and vegi's, and lean meats. Perfect for a long term lifestyle change.

The book is in 3 phases - Phase one - corrects metabolism, Phase 2 - weight loss, Phase 3 - healthy lifestyle.

The book also has recipes but I actually haven't really looked at them yet. I think this is a great book but be prepared to cook from scratch. No prepared or convenience foods on this diet. No fast food. No sweets...unless you consider sugar free Jello a sweet!!

Over all I feel this is a great diet with healthy foods. Easy reading and no counting points, calories or carbs!!

I was hoping the cookbook would have some of the same recipes the original book has, but it doesn't. It's a good thing I made copies of the recipes I wanted from the books I borrowed from the library. The South Beach Diet

I like the detailed description of the food program, and the menus and recipes are so helpful. I especially like Dr. Agatson's explanations as to why certain foods are not included in the eating program, especially at first, even though they are low calorie. Makes it easier to not justify "just this once". Also, the program is flexible, so workable in the real world. My boyfriend was distressed because he had recently gained a pant size, so I asked him if he would follow the program if I bought the book, since I had two personal friends who have had great success with the South Beach Diet. I myself work out regularly, but had noticed my cholesterol levels creeping up and even though they were not yet too high, I have enjoyed knowing that I am also taking care of the inside of my body. In the first two weeks, my boyfriend has gone back to his original pant size, and has taken his belt up two holes. Yay! The only negative I would have to mention is that the prep time is longer than I like. I find myself in the kitchen chopping and pre-preparing next day's breakfast and lunch in the evening because we both leave for work very early, and take our lunch. Normally I would be enjoying outside, and I have been somewhat resentful of that. But as time goes on, I get quicker with the job because I am becoming more familiar with the routine, so I hope that soon I will be out of the kitchen and playing quicker again.Lire l'avis complet...

The SOUTHBEACH DIET

It is the most sensible diet yet, and combines the carb counting with good carb bad carb info and diet plan. Best used with the SOUTHBEACH DIET CARB counter book. Carb counting alone does not work..I always knew something was amiss when they told me to count the carbs on my broccoli! This book is the answer for alot of people who want to lose weight. As always, you may also want to supplement your diet with a good quality muti-vitamin complex. The first 2 weeks are the toughest, but after you get settled in to getting over your initial sugar cravings this diet is a relatively easy one to stay on. You have so many choices and can eat so many things..actually staying on the diet is the most important part of a sucessful weight loss regimen.Lire l'avis complet...

The South Beach Diet changed my life!

I gained 15 pounds after the birth of my second child. I am only 25 and did not want either a crash diet (where the weight would come back with a vengeance) or a 100% carb free death diet. The South Beach Diet was easy to read and understand. In 5 weeks, I had lost the weight and all my old clothes fit great! It was easy, effective, and not so painful. You are taught that sneaking a cookie is not the end of the world. You can eat what you want, you just need to balance it and teach yourself some discipline. The book also had recipes that are not too bad...I learned to eat some things that are actually good that I never would have tried. The South Beach Diet by Arthur S. Agatston M.D. (2003)

I purchased this book in the hopes of losing weight and re-learning proper eating habits. So far the diet has proven to be effective. Dr. Agatston uses a very sensible and healthy approach to address weight loss. I found his 3 phases to be similar in approach to the Atkins diet, however it is not about "low-carbs" it is about the "right" carbs. The first phase completely restricts bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and other high starch foods. Sound familiar? This is where it ends! Phase 2 allows you to add back in whole wheat and whole grain breads, skim milk, light yogurt, oats, sensible portions of pasta... He realizes that we can't deny ourselves certain foods forever! If you have a special day coming up it's okay to indulge a little, just keep it confined to the day! Get back to the sensible eating immediately and don't beat yourself up for the indulgence. In regards to dessert, if you are given to a sweet tooth, only eat 2 or 3 bites and stop! You get the taste you wanted and you don't overdo it with all the calories and fat! I have lost 4 pounds so far and plan to keep it up. In the past I have tried Weight Watcher's, Atkins, T-Factor and calorie counting! I did experience success with each diet. I also eventually re-gained all the weight I had lost on Weight Watcher's, T-Factor and calorie counting. I only re-gained 10 pounds out of the 46 I lost on Atkins, so there is definitely something to the carb restriction. I just want to incorporate the foods I missed and South Beach fits the bill! I also hope to break the plateau I had with Atkins and lose that excess 20 pounds that wouldn't budge! I strongly recommend this book to anyone wanting to get their body back to a more healthy state. The recipe section is especially nice to have. Some of the chef's recipes are a bit involved and use ingredients that most of us would not normally keep in our pantries. The South Beach Diet - RECOMMENDED!!

I’ve tried countless diets, as I sure you have too, but this one REALLY worked for me! In the first two weeks I lost 10 lbs! This diet is so unique because its not just about losing weight but changing your lifestyle and focusing on a healthier you. I love this diet because it stresses not having to feel hungry and isn’t complicated!

This is the perfect diet for everyone, mainly because you do not have to deprive yourself! You'll enjoy normal size helpings of meat, poultry, and fish. You'll also eat eggs, cheese, nuts, and vegetables AND (my favorite part) - snacks are required! You'll learn to avoid the bad carbs, like white flour, white sugar, and baked potatoes. Best of all, as you loose weight, you'll loose that stubborn belly fat first!

The intial two week period is the most restrictive part of the diet. This phase was hard for me because I am always craving bread, pasta and fruit but there are still choices and snacks. The second phase offers somewhat more choices, including whole wheat bread and other selected carbohydrates. Also, roughly half the book is comprised of complete meal plans along with simple recipes!

I also love how the book is written – in a conversational tone and inviting manner that makes the book more appealing than many other diet tomes. From someone who was sick of counting calories and fad diets – the South Beach Diet was my answer and can be your too! Give it a try – what’ve you got to lose (besides a few pounds)?
