The Original Wicker Man 99 minutes.

This set includes both the. so called, extended version and a copy of the theatrical release.
Running 99 minutes and Called the extended version, the 99 minute movie is in reality the version that the director intended.
It, the 99 minutes, is the only version that should ever be seen. If you cannot find the 99 runtime, or a set with both, please do not waste your time. The shorter, recut, version leaves out vital information and changes the timeline enough to cause confusion. When compared to the original it is a travesty.
The movie itself is a classic mystery/horror/ thriller. Strangely enough it is also a musical done so subtly and integral to the plot that those who do not care for musical as a genre will not notice. (Christopher Lee pointed that fact out in an interview.)
Once again Edward Woodward provides an outstanding, believable performance as Neil Howie. Christopher Lee, considered Lord Summer isle as some of his best work.
Caution, some scenes not recommended for children, adults may want to pre screen to make their own determination.
Otherwise this cult classic is a must see!

A very collectable version of one of my favorite films

I bought this DVD box set because "The Wicker Man" has been one of my favorite horror/suspense type films for several years. I very much prefer these 1973 original versions over the fairly recent remake with Nicholas Cage. The cast includes Ed Woodward (The Equalizer), Christopher Lee, Ingrid Pitt, and many other UK film regulars. The wooden box is quite nice, it contains small copies of the original lobby posters and has the Wicker Man logo burned into the front. It contains both the US theatrical version which has a running time of 88 minutes, and the original long version which runs 99 minutes. Even though the theatrical version is considerably shorter, it does have a couple of scenes not in the long version. I personally enjoyed both versions, but will admit I liked the long version a little more. Most of the actors were unhapply with the cuts made for theatrical release, with the exception of Ingrid Pitt who said the cuts helped the pace of the movie. The theatrical version DVD also includes some nice extra features, including the theatrical trailer and a "making of" documentary which has interviews with many of the cast members and producers. I would recommend this box set for a true fans of the movie. Someone who is just curious about the film may want to start out with one of the single disc versions.

aesthetic&casting is HOLY, the filming=exuisite&story!

The first time I watched this was not until 2004. I've always wanted to rent this and watch it, if not to buy it, ever since I was little. In my pee-wee basketball days, I heard my principle & teacher talking about a film they saw called the wicker man(I could only voyeur adults talking). They were like: "it's outright evil and satanic", & so I HAD TO SEE IT! This was like mid to late 80s and I couldn't find Wicker Man at all, different towns/cities and vhs-rentals. Nothing. In 2004 I went in this unconventional movie rental store, and in the VHS dept. there was the Wicker Man! I couldn't wait to watch this, and honestly I didn't know that all this slow paced, but slowly getting more enquisitive and more at pace that's got fast enough for its pace. However; that whole time, a clever manipulation! There was Maginificant use of misdirection and misinterpretation, leaving viewers "Huh?" if these Pagans their beliefs are really benign as they're portrayed? Viewers watch this w/ problem-solving mentalities, as if the movie is like BOTH playing & solving a rubix cube. The intolerable xian (who's ideas vs. the Pagans), are absolutely RIDICULOUS/UNREALISTIC like the rituals he sees perforemed by the Pagans; however, ridiculous or not, everyone is happy.. in his they come out flat STUPID: EVERYONE must be $aved from one's own self, haha). The vhs tape I rented and watched was the uncut-version, yet more FANTASTIC and supah Genius!(compared to two different dvd-releases I rented just for the sake of the uncut version, which was butchered. The uncut is so much Greater when it's actually being exposed. To me to cut these scenes out is like someone taking a test, and what they know for sure they got Correct on the test, they then cross them out and Deliberately set themselves to fail by leaving that which is unknown to be correct/false. THAT poetry-performance in that one scene outside his window after being tempted sexually and not GIVING IN, the filming of two snails having sex, and along w/ Lord Byron's recitation of this Intelligent poem by ?....?. That scene of temptation on the Xian by the WONDERFUL dance of slapping her buttocks, HolyHETERO I leeped up and yelled "ART!", from that scene, to the end.. is like a moment of an *epiphany* who watches this should orchestrate that whole night together where just mere commonsense actually comes together and falls in the right place so naturally. It just all lined up in the correct order. This technique used through the whole film, yet used experimentally, especially at the end. I'm guessing it's probably due to editing the film to be as *so*. I was hooked! I WANTED Pagans alive. I actually started getting myself in trouble at my school cus I would just talk about Pagans and how we need to go back to those kinds of days, at least out of RESPECT to exhume the Pagan-festivals that were deliberately coveted by the Catholics placing the dates of the Xian holidays they made for THEM, on top of the Pagan's. I GOT SUSPENSION FOR A WEEK because my COUNSELOR Gave ME A REFERAL FOR AN E.E.G. due to Paganism-fascination. I *makes devilsign w/ fingers*, and yells out: "HAIL to this uncut FILM!, & HAIL to the DIRECTOR!" I found out, reading the Epistles in the N.T. AGAIN. Xian's religion is not legit! Basically there are two Catholic religions, one made for the christians and the other for themselves. THINK ABOUT IT: Catholic-made-BIBLE for them, Holidays, moved the sabbath from sat to sun. on & on. Hah poor XiansLire l'avis complet...

Creepy Cult Movie About a Creepy Cult

What gets you is what you do not expect. You think it is going one way and then it turns a sharp left and then another.

A cop tries to solve the case of a missing girl, but no one in the town seems to be willing to help. He keeps digging for the truth - and you know what happens to people who dig too much in horror movie!

Excellent script with solid acting. The creepiest part is the low budget feel, the harsh light on the town - even when trying to be all cheery you know that something is very wrong with that town!

Highly recommended for horror fans, I have not seen the remake so I will hold my comparison. But usually the original is the truer/scarier film.

Great limited edition

I'm not going to go into detail on the movie based upon it already reaching cult status, however I will say that it's a very interesting and unique piece for any dvd collector. You most likely won't be disappointed in this purchase.Lire l'avis complet...

Two-Versions of the Original Wicker Man

I was so pleased to find both original versions (short & long) of one of my favorite horror movies - and I love the wooden box they came in! I like Nicholas Cage’s version too but it does not compare to the first one with Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee & Britt Eckland. I will treasure this!Lire l'avis complet...

Classic "slow burn" horror movie

Weirdly twisted classic horror movie that builds to a climax. Christopher Lee's most coveted acting gig.
