A well-written story of love, optimism, & a gentle man w/ a fighting spirit

A poignant and well-written memoir. Swayze comes across as he does in many movies--a strong yet gentle/sensitive man with a lot of ambition. His great love for his wife and family, his humility, and his appreciation for his many fortunes in life are the threads that winds through each chapter of the book. Unlike most celebrities, he never seems arrogant or contrived, nor does he focus on making himself look good so much as on his experiences with his various dance/film projects and relationships, which were all very important to him. Knowing that the book was written during his dying days makes the last few chapters rather difficult, especially for devoted fans, but his optimism, fighting spirit, and great love and zest for life shine through to the very last page.Lire l'avis complet...

Just When You Think You Don't Have The Strength

I've always been a Patrick Swayze fan of him and his movies but after reading his book it's definitely quite clear why I've been a fan of his as I sure enjoyed reading about his life that he was just as human as the rest of us and had his share of ups, downs, and insecurities in life before the cancer in spite of a really great marriage to Lisa which their marriage was rare especially in Hollywood. What really made me just keep reading this book is the amount of fight he had in him. Just when you don't think you have the strength to deal with one more "bad happening" in life, well his book is definitely inspiring and shows you that you can. Easy? Of course not, but that's what I really admired and respected about him was not giving up and fighting his cancer till the end. I've read a few books lately based on the life of a celebrity and this one is by far the best book I've ever read. Best book I've ever read to date period. Definitely one I could read many more times especially if I found myself getting down on life which we all do from time to time. This book would sure pick me up, dust me off, and get me back up on my feet again so to speak. A must read if you haven't especially if you're a Patrick Swayze fan. I can't put the book down. When I am finished it will not be given away or sold. Heart warming! Inspiring! Easy read! Heart wrenching! Patrick shares with us a life filled with tragic dream breakers and his ability to keep on going. Will share this book with my son who as a professor of music is also living through dream breakers because of our deep recession. My heart goes out to his wonderful wife, Lisa. I so enjoyed this book, I have always adored Patrick Swaze. Cancer is such a horrific disease , Patrick’s courage , strength and the love and support of his wife is awe-inspiring. My love & appreciation for Patrick Swayze as an actor has always been great, especially since watching his many movies, some repeatedly. I never tire watching Roadhouse, Ghost, & my absolute favorite, Dirty Dancing. Seeing his movies made me feel like I knew Patrick, but it was not until I purchased this wonderful book, that I have thoroughly gained insight into the real person. Patrick Swayze & wife Lisa Niemi have shared a part of their beautiful love story & life together and I thank them both for that. I will no longer just think of what a great actor Patrick was & the joy his movies brought to many people. This book has allowed me to share a portion of his life's dreams, joys, fears, hope ,disappointments & many successes.
The only problem I have had with reading this book is that it is so great, I have not wanted to put it down. I only hope many others will enjoy this very special book as much as I have.Lire l'avis complet...

The Time of My Life by Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi

This book is one you will want to read over and over. Each time I have read it I come away with more information and feeling I know them. Their's was a true love story, and I would recommend it to everyone.
I keep learning more about each movie, stage of their lives, and the real people behind it. Patrick and Lisa were not your typical "Hollywood" people. They were real people trying to live real lives in a very difficult setting. Life in the "limelight" is not easy, and I think they did a wonderful job, and thanks to Lisa they made it work. Patrick was a wonderful, but driven man, and Lisa supported him all the way. This is one book not to be missed! I would not part with this book. I't's a real "keeper".
