One Of My Favorite Books Bar None

The Talisman is one of my favorite books from Stephen King and co-author Peter Straub. It's an interesting and exciting mix of scifi, horror and fantasy that centers around a young boy named Jack Sawyer and his quest to save his mother (the Queen of The B's, "b" movies that is) life. Jack's quest takes him across the country and into another world entirely, a place called the Territories, a place that is hauntingly familar to a much younger Jack Sawyer, a Jack whose father still lived, whose mother was still well and whose "Uncle" (in name only) was already evil.

The territories is a place of great beauty and wonder but also of great danger and evil, a world where Jack is persued by his Uncle's evil "twinner" and a pack (literally) of his henchmen...werewolves. Noone and nothing is exactly what it seems (including Jack himself). He soon discovers that his mother's life is not the only one in need of saving, apparently the Queen of the Terroritories is dying as well.So Jack must "flip" between worlds to save them both and discover the truth about himself, his family and the world as he knows it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book...If I told you more, I'd spoil it. I Highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a mix of genres, all wrapped up in an Arthurian style quest.

All for the Talisman

The only books by King that have moved & impacted me more than The Talisman (and later Black House) are the Dark Tower Books. The Talisman is very lightly connected to the DT Series (Black House is even more so) with the concept of multiple worlds/universes and the the way they effect each other. Second only to the Gunslinger himself, Jack, the Talisman's lead male, is one of King's most interesting characters (at least I think so). Jack's story is one that has been often told by many others. The Talisman is a classic boy takes on a journey to become a man and save the world type story, but here King and Straub do an excellent job. The Talisman is a wonderful, heart warming story of a boy's journey on what seems to be an impossible quest for a child his age, all set in a often dreary yet still glamorous fantasy world. As he jumps back and forth between two worlds, Jack meets some of the most interesting characters I have ever read about, from Wolf (the Werewolf) to The Reverend Sunlight Gardener. He faces many ups and downs on his path and it is hard not to grin from ear to ear when he succeeds in something, or feel tired and lost as Jack does on several occasions. A piece of advice, if you decided to read the Talisman, make sure you have Black House close at hand, you'll want to start reading it the second you finish the Talisman!Lire l'avis complet...

read this thick book in 2 days !! Excellent!!

I bought this book since a friend of mine had said it was one of Stephen King's and it wasn't keep-all-the-lights-on scary.

I read it in 2 days and this book isn't thin!! I loved how the boy could slide into different worlds that where the same yet different that ours. All on his trip from the east coast to the west in his search for the tailsman that can save his dying mother.

Thought provoking with all the side slipping into another worlds and how they effect our world too.

Wolf was one of my favorite characters. "Protect the herd" :)

What object ends up being the talisman is Wonderfully ingenious !! I can't say much without giving things away but it that makes perfect since in a strange way.

The Talisman

A very interesting tale of a young man who discovers an alternate world similar to ours. This story has adventure, drama, suspense, and a little horror all tied together by one of the master storytellers, Stephen King.
I found it compelling and hard to put down.

1st Ed The Talisman by Stephen King & Peter Straub

If your a serious Stephen King or Peter Straub collector, "The Talisman" is a MUST HAVE! Once again, a young "unknown" is thrust into a journey to prevent a catastrophic event. The journey the young boy partakes is very daunting but nothing will stand in his way as he has accepted the burden and will stop at nothing to accomplish it! Great reading, especially on a dark and stormy night! This book is becoming hard to find in Mint Condition as it was written in 1984! If you buy a good one...hang onto it!Lire l'avis complet...
