Absolutely Chilling

The movie The Strangers is inspired by true events. The beginning of the movie is actually the end of the movie, then they recap. Even though you have already figured out the fates of the couple, it's an intriguing intro and you're hooked.
Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler play Kristen and James, a couple who has just returned to a remote summer home, from a friends wedding. The events unfold fairly quickly, the story takes place all in one evening. Absolutely frightening in a very real way.

I think the only big disappointment to me was that there are no subtitles, and I always keep the subtitles on to catch the whispers and background noise.
This movie reminded me a lot of Funny Games(which came out on DVD earlier this year),because the people are the monsters. Seemingly normal and therein lies the terror!

Not much in the way of bonus features, but if you like suspense thrillers you won't be disappointed.Lire l'avis complet...

*~*~ Not All Its Cracked Up To Be ~*~*

We would rate The Strangers 4 out of 10. It is a very slow film(very drawn out), especially at the beginning. It will keep you in suspense and possibly on the edge of your seat, but it takes awhile for any real action to kick in and then when it does, its not really all that.
It is a quality film, however, it seems low budget as Liv Tyler is pretty much the only acting cast throughout the film(as the other cast members play only short roles throughout the film - they come and go), and all of the movie takes place at one secluded location.

Like we said, it will keep your attention, and possibly make you jump, but its not all it is cracked up to be.

You may have interests to watch it again after the first time, as the second time may not seem to drag along as much. We didnt give it a second chance to re-watch it, but may re-watch it some other time.

Elements of Terror Not Scary Enough For Me Yet Good!

The billing for this R-Rated film was that it might (May) prevent you from ever going home again! It really only put me to sleep faster knowing what was going to happen and have to sit through a bunch of romantic (smoochy smoochy) stuff just to get to the main film plot. It was really interesting at the end when it became daylight again. The sleepiness usually is a sign of poor situational decisions that are supposed to build on any initial tensions, but the editing was a tad bit off, although the ending was found by me to be a wee bit creepy.

I also didn't like it that the dude's friend comes in and gets blown away by the other friend's dude. It really made me angry that they would be so stupid after being so terrified to be so careless.

I'll give this one 3/5 for good acting on the part of Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman.

The Strangers

I had to write a review for this one. I usually don't get scared at horror movie such as Jason or Freddy ones, I had to turn the lights on for this one. The movie is supposed to be based on true events might be another reason I was a little scared. This movie is a horror movie, but parts of it are different than any horror movie I've ever seen which was a much needed change. I really like this movie even the it shows the violence that seems to be ever so real and common in today's society. The movie's only well known actor is Liv Tyler (Aerosmith led singer's daughter)and I've never heard of the rest of the actor's though they do a good job in the movie. If you like horror movies I'm sure you'll like the Strangers, I hope they make a sequel.Lire l'avis complet...

The Strangers

I loved this movie a lot. It was so scary. I had to take the time during the movie and check all the doors and windows and make sure they were locked. Imagine, it's late at night, dark outside in the middle of nowhere and you are alone at someone elses house waiting for your boyfriend to return. All of a sudden there are pounding at the door and it goes on and on. Sounds like a madman out there. You don't trust what might happen if you open that door. By now you know those people out there is trying to get to you. But this is just the beginning of the horror yet to come. This movie got from spooky to frightening. The quiet tall man out there wears such a simple canvas bag over his head with two holes for his eyes and another for his mouth. There are others in cute halloween masks yet they too are so quiet and creepy. The demanding pounding on the door continues. You are trying to keep quiet curled up on the kitchen floor. All at once in the background the tall man in the canvas mask is shown walking behind you. You don't realize he has found his way in the house. You want a good scare? THE STRANGERS

This was an outstanding movie! Taught me NOT to answer the door at night! I was on the edge of my seat almost the whole movie (the beginning was a little slow), but BAM it goes hard core from then on! The thing that makes this movie so scary is... it's based on true events! And anything that actually has OR can happen are usually more terrifying to me! And this movie does not let you down. The ending is sad. I only wished the good guys won in the end! Now I know why my mommy taught me "Don't talk to strangers"! This movie will keep you from opening your door up at night, period. The bit, "Cause you were home" sent me into a tizzy! If you get the chance definitely watch this one! DO NOT SHOW TO ANYONE UNDER 17, they'll never move out!Lire l'avis complet...

Sad, Scary And True

Based on actual events this film will scare the socks off you..Film starts out with a young handsome couple he plans a romantic night a marriage proposal and a bright happy future..she's scared not ready for marriage, but still loves the boy deeply..as they work thrhough this the night takes a strange and eerie turn..a young Girl knocks on their door asking for a stranger they tell her she has the wrong house..she leaves, but returns when the young Man goes out to run an errand..you'll jump scream and probably wet yourself as this film runs its course..don't blink you may miss something..I give this film 5 out of 5 bars..Lire l'avis complet...

this could possibly happen in society today with noone ever knowing

this is somewhat of a suspense movie.liv tyler and scott speedman star as a couple who are coming to a summer home after a dinner.the dinner went wrong because scott's charecter proposes to liv's charecter and she turns him down.there is a comfortable uneasiness between the couple for most of the night.the couple talk things out as it gets better,they are getting ready to have sex when there is a knock on the door at 4a.m. in the morning.the man answers the door and it a lone young women asking if her friend is there.scott tells her she has the wrong house and the girl leaves.it gets calm and quiet again.liv notices she has no cigarettes and scott runs to get some.while he is gone there is a knock on the door again.the same woman is at the door.she is told again that the friend does not live at that house.then there is more knocking and pounding on the walls.liv calls scott to come home as now she is frightened.from the wtahcers view you can see the charecters enter the house without liv's knowing.they move stuff in the house and take her phone to freak liv out.the terror continues and starts to get much worse.i do not want to spoil anything,so check out the rset to see the end.Lire l'avis complet...

A good addition to your "creepy" collection.

I saw this movie years ago and was happy to find the dvd. It is really scary and makes one think about being safe in the home.

The Strangers

Being a horror movie buff, this purchase was a no-brainer.It was available almost concurrent with the dvd release date. Movie contained a lot of suspense and not as much actual violence as you may have expected. I liked the movie because it sets you up with a sad feeling then quickly leads you into a horrific nightmare of an evening for the lead characters.Lire l'avis complet...
