The "Starch" theory, by Dr McDougall, is a culmination of many years of study of the foods people from around the world eat and their impact on health. His starch way of eating feels "clean" except for the use of tofu in his recipes (hormones and GMO in soy products) and about the use of non-organics. I received reasonable responses from Dr McDougall's staff, although I'm not completely convinced. The reason for non-organics was because not everyone can afford organics; in the case of soy they stated that it's used only as a condiment in recipes. It seems that there's a lot of tofu used in the recipes. The book contains an abundance of recipes, some great, that include alternative products to animal sources. I disagree with the unhealthy content of some of the alternative ingredients listed in some recipes.

The theory is somewhat convincing based on Dr McDougall's background: a stroke at age 19 and his miraculous reversal of debilitating health challenges caused by what he believes was the impact of eating animal products while growing up. I appreciate his reference to the ignorance of mainstream medicine and its disconnect between foods and their impact on our wellbeing.

It Works!

I've been fighting obesity and Type II diabetes for years. The Starch Solution has given me real hope. After 15 days following the protocols in this book, I've lost 15 pounds and counting. I feel great and am enjoying meals with spuds, rice, corn and barley. I'm never hungry! My blood work is better than it's been in 25 years.

It's easy and doesn't require any expensive supplements, courses, equipment, etc.

Starchivore for life!

I have been plant based since 2013 after a life-threatening illness. The diet sheet I was given on discharge from hospital was a joke, as almost everything I was "allowed" made me sick. I finally started searching for "natural care" for my health issues and thank goodness I saw Dr. McDougall's website.I know of him for years as I was 35 years vegetarian, but could never overcome my love of (addiction to) cheese and other dairy.
I tried his free 10-day diet and never looked back. The Starch Solution is possibly his most important book ever, because he doesn't get bogged down in chemistry and mathematical formulae and so on when discussing human nutrition.
Don't fear the whole food starches. I don't care who told you that high fat and/or high protein and/or low carb was the healthiest way to eat, but they're liars and charlatans.
Get this book and discover the healthiest, youngest, free-est you that you never knew existed. Eating the high carb no oil way is the cheapest, most nutritious way of eating on the planet. If the world went plant based and started growing plant foods for human consumption, we could end not just hunger but also malnutrition, and eliminate most diseases, and even obesity.

I'm still making the transition to a full starch life and it's super easy. I've only been using the recommended teaching for 3-4 days and can see some progression.
