Spirit of the Disciplines
I bought this for a church Sunday School/Bible Study class. I had no prior information about this book or the author before we started. When I first started reading this book, I kept getting the impression that the author was trying to stretch a 50 page message into a 300 page book. I also got the impression that he was trying to impress me with his use of the dictionary as he would use a complex word every chance he got where a few simple words would have gotten the message across. As I read further into the book, the "Shade" "tone" "intent" "angle" of what he was saying would move around and I began to wonder if Dallas had actually proof-read his writing. Then I started to look at his references to other material (which were abundant) and I came to the realization that Dallas Willard was basically scooping out things he had read from others and was trying to patch it all together and did not understand the subject himself and was using "high" language to hide that he did not know what he was talking about.
Some of the folks in my study would explain Dallas Willard's writing as "deep", but I disagree and I felt bad for the ones in my study who thought they were "inadequate", or "I feel like I am a worm..." because they were not getting what Dallas was writing. I plan on presenting my views on his book to these folks in private when I get the opportunity because they should not feel less for not understanding an author who is not seeking to be understood.Lire l'avis complet...
