A Necessary End

Everybody seems to come down on the last episode of this overall fantastic series. Personally I don't mind it! I mean does everything have to come to a cataclysmic end? Is the life of a NJ crime boss not exciting enough we need more from their lives. As the fantastic Journey song that ends this series says "It just goes on, and on, and on..."

The question is do we need it to? I mean Season 6 Part I was a pathetic grasp at keeping the series going. Did we really need more of that? Season 6 Part II tried to build up to some cataclysmic ending that adorns so much of North American entertainment and leaves you with reality.

The lives of these people go on. By this point you have seen it all and it is safe to assume it just keeps on going. For this reason I love this season of The Sopranos. Granted it's not as fantastic as the beginning of the series but it is necessary. I admire those involved for having the guts to take this approach.

Definitely worth watching if you are a fan of the series...

The Sopranos Season 6, Part 2 DVD Box Set

I purchased 'The Sopranos Season 6, Part 2 DVD Box Set' partly to complete my collection of the entire series on DVD. I enjoyed the last season, which included the somewhat controvercial 'last episode'......many having a big problem with the way it ended. I thought initially that it was a bit poor, but, upon further consideration, it actually fit in well with the series. Lots of things were 'left hanging' along the way. I thought overall it was a good half-season and greatly enjoyed it. It can't measure up to the first 2-3 seasons, but what series has not experienced the same thing. If you loved the series, as I did, I would definitely recommend purchasing this DVD set.Lire l'avis complet...

I was a little disappointed ...

I am a big Sopranos fan. My Sunday nights just haven't been the same since the Sopranos ended. I own all the other seasons sets and I felt compelled to complete the set even though I recorded all the episodes of the last season myself.

I was really looking forward to the extras and the commentary from teh cast and particularly the writing staff. I just love when they give you the extra insight into the langauage, songs, bizarre references that I am not familiar with. It helps me to enjoy the brillance of the show that much more.

This disk set only has commentary from only actors on the show. Robert Iler was particularly disappointing when he admits he doesn't really watch the show. (Then why comment?) He was not really "aware" of the plot lines that don't include him. He lends no insight, other than the "lincoln logs" his mother Carmela made him were really raw and disgusting and he was glad he didn't have to eat one on camera. There is minimal comment from him, alot of "dead air"...Waste of time and resources IMHO.

The best 2 things about the DVD is David Chase being interviewed about the song choices for the show. I always thought the songs featured were great and appropriate.

Little Stevie Van Zandt and another minor character do the job I expected on their "commentary" of the next to last episode. They point out things on the set and explain certain references and insights into the contemporary italian and mob culture.

Lastly, there is an extra "Making of Clever", featuring Christopher and Little Carmine. It is OK, but not particularly intriguing. For a show that I would hold up and say was one of, if not the best show on television, this DVD did not do it justice. The writing, the casting, the acting on the show was all top notch. I never saw an episode that I didn't want to see over and over. I could do without this DVD set.

HBO breaking up the final season into 2 box sets, just to milk the $$$ from the fans is irrating too.

Confusing ending

Left a few things hanging in the air such as What happened to Paulie? Also, are we to assume the final ending of the series as they ate dinner in the restaurant? Do we just put our own ending on it and come up with a scenario that we think fits? I would feel better about the series if the writers had come up with their own ending. Still, I consider this the best Non-Western Series that TV has ever seen. Lonesome Dove is still the Western leader.

The language could have been toned down, but for realism, I would assume Gangsters really talk that way. I spent several years in the Marine Corps and I never heard normal conversation laced with so many provocative words. It was somewhat disheartening to watch AJ grow from a small boy at the beginning into a replica of his Father with his language and morals, etc.

It's finally over!

Well, for starters I am (or should I say WAS) a huge Sopranos fan...knew everything there was to know about the show, the characters, the relationships, the whole enchilada. But disapointment started setting in by the fifth season. The sixth season...blah. The first half was to me just plain stupid and the second half (the last nine episodes) answered no questions, finished no major stories and ended quite abruptly. Now I know, every one says "true Sopranos fans" should have understood the ending...don't get me wrong, I did. It left you hanging like most of the intertwined plots did throughout the whole series. But c'mon! All my years of devotion rewarded with that ending? All those unanswered questions? Tony NOT getting whacked? I had to buy this DVD set for my husband for Christmas to finish his collection. Imagine my thrill when I got it the day after Thanksgiving for $12.99! Because paying any more than that would have been a real crime.Lire l'avis complet...

The Perfect Ending to the Perfect Series

I'm buying this set because I own all the rest of them, so this completes the series for me. AND I got a very good price here! Now for the review. We all know what happens over the final half of season 6, so I'll focus on the one that twists everyone's horns the wrong way - the final episode. Look, let's face it, mobsters don't get whacked every day. Some days, you're a Family man, and other days you're a family man. In this case, our parting shot of Tony is with his family, relaxing, maybe catching a breather before the next crisis hits. This is real life. Ups and downs, highs and lows, peaks and valleys. Tony can't be ducking the mob and the feds every second of the day. Although it makes for exciting viewing, that's not real life. You want him dead? David Chase gave you an out for that to happen. Write your own ending. Use your own imagination. Hmmm, didn't think you'd have the chance to do that here, with as graphic a series as this was, that you can actually use your own imagination and have that guy come out of the men's room, guns blazing, splattering Tony's brains all over those yummy onion rings ("best in new Jersey!"). So go ahead, make it happen that way. For me, just the fact that Tony lives to see another day is punishment enough! Marvelous ending! Wonderful show! Thank you David Chase!Lire l'avis complet...

Watching the Sopranos

I do not subscribe to HBO, so I purchased the whole six season set of the Sopranos of DVD one season at a time on EBAY. Since I am retired, I have been so busy I am only into season three. I like the series because many nights there is nothing worth watching on TV. I can have a great show to watch whenever I want since THE SOPRANOS series (without commercials and unedited) is superb in plot development, character development, and escapist viewing. The episodes keep me guessing about how a plot incident will develop in future shows. For example, I am wondering how Tony's female psychiatrist will handle the dilemma of her rape. Her rapist, whom she can positively identify, had to be released since the police screwed up the "chain of custody." Will she tell Tony so he can make sure the rapist is punished? Will she forgo the pleasure of hurting the man who hurt her???? I'll just keep plugging through until I find out, but the suspense is fun. There are very few series out there worthy of my viewing time, but THE SOPRANOS and BOSTON LEGAL (which I also bought on EBAY since I missed a few episodes) rate a 10 on a 10 point scale with me. "The Good Doctor" = reviewer.Lire l'avis complet...

No regrets after buying and viewing.

I basically stopped watching tv over 8 years ago and never subscribed to cable or dish service,
no regrets. My curiosity about this series got to me, however. As a result, I have bought and
viewed all six seasons over the past few months....no regrets here, either....am very impressed with the quality of characterization in The Sopranos, not to mention other aspects of entertainment value....humor, seriousness, what a mix...such humanization of the characters.Lire l'avis complet...

The Sopranos - Season 6, Part 2

The Sopranos is perhaps the best drama aon TV/Cable is outstanding show; sheras we love the characters regardless if they are good or bad guys. The cast is incredible as well as the writing, direction. The final season wraps up the show and renders the Psychological therapy sessions of Tony Soprano to a conclusion. People forget that the show begun with Psychological sessions and ends with such. In the end, the family goes on, for the good and the bad that comes with it; however, Tony is now at peace with his immediate family as they are at peace with Tony. Tony is now strong enough on his own to handle future outcomes that we may never get to see. The finale is brilliant and dispels all the rumors of what will happen. I purchased the videos as I want to watch them uninterrupted, without censureship for years to come. There may never be another show like this ever again.Lire l'avis complet...
