Cheech Marin trying to be broader, and nearly makes it

In an effort to prove that he can do comedy that doesn't involve pharmaceuticals, Cheech Marin stars as a restrauteur whose attempts to leave Australia meet with comic results, as he becomes a pawn in heiress Emma Samms' efforts to win her father's approval for her loutish boyfriend. A typical mismatch romantic comedy, gentle in nature but really fun at times, but again, no drugs and no slapstick. It'll never enter all-time classic status, but I doubt you'll have any complaints, either.

One memorable scene involves Samms' always-on-the-prowl fiance putting the moves on her untrustworthy best friend, leading to an intimate encounter in what appears to be a jacuzzi but turns out to be a fish tank on full public view in the hotel's bar!

Two thumbs up for Shrimp on the Barbie!

Cheech Marin is at his best in this movie down under in Australia. Emma Samms is wonderful, and the rest of the cast are great too. This is an all around fully entertaining movie and provides plenty of laughs. I'd give it 5 stars if the DVD had been made to include captions/subtitles. Nevertheless, The Shrimp on the Barbie is one of my all-time favorites and a keeper!Lire l'avis complet...

Warm and lighthearted

I found this movie to be warm and lighthearted. I saw it years ago, and would watch it every time I found it on TV. Cheech Marin is funny, without being offensive, and Emma Samms is perfect in her role. I'm glad I bought this movie, and I would definitely buy it again. It's a movie I can watch over and over, and enjoy it every time.Lire l'avis complet...

The best "Down Under" Romantic Comedy ever!

Shrimp on the Barbie is a hilarious movie about Carlos(Cheech Marin) and his adventure to make it big in Australia. The best thing about this movie is the great relationship between Carlos (Cheech) and Alex (Emma Samms)(the beautiful Emma before the horrible cosmetic surgery). The side characters really add to the movie too. I love the "sex-crazed" cousin with a Mexican and horse obsession and the sexy girlfriend that sleeps with Alex's fiance'.Especially the naked fish tank romp. A very funny 'classic' 80's movie. Quite frankly there wasn't enough gratuitous nude scenes that are such a memorable part of the 80's/90's B-Flick genre. I really love this movie and if you get a chance, see it. I bought this movie because it has been a favorite of mine since 1990.Lire l'avis complet...

A Roaring Good Time

This film combines Cheech Marin's infamous humor with a touch of Chivalry. I love this film not only for it's humor but for the fact that it takes place in my favorite place in all the world, Sidney, Australia. Emma Samms shows a surprising ability to play the 'straight man', while showing that her character was not the usual 'Richie'. This is a film worth having.Lire l'avis complet...

The Shrimp on the Barbie

My husband had been looking for this movie for years, and could not find it in the local stores. I have been looking everywhere myself, so when I finally found it on ebay I could not pass up the chance to buy. I have not watched it, but my husband loves it. I have seen bits and pieces and it seems to be very funny.Lire l'avis complet...
