The San Joaquin Valley, As it was -- end to end
This book of photographs and short pieces was published locally in 1979 and is rooted in its time. it's a large format book with seriously excellent reproduction of the black and white photos of valley places and people that you would only discover from a long intimacy with this region which, then as now, showed the incredible range and depth of its soul only to those with deep acquaintance. The short text pieces are in the voices of people of the Valley and ring true to the lives of those shown. If you've lived in the Valley for a long time, you'll recognize many places and folks as you might have known them, not from a flashy postcard or a quick TV ad but as they have been, in the complications and subtle shades of the real world. If you haven't that experience, it will color some oft he background of the places and the people who have shaped each other. I am only sorry I didn't encounter this book when it was published.Lire l'avis complet...
