An absolutely required book that should be in every learning institution (above elementary school) in America.

Everyone should have this book in his or her collection. It is a compelling and chilling accounting of a social "experiment" gone wrong, at a large university, which unforeseen results so badly traumatized the professor involved that it took him twenty years to get over his personal emotional devastation and publish this very important work.Lire l'avis complet...

Great book that could even help lessen terrorism!

Zimbard apparently does an about face in his attitude that "evil lurks" within all of us after reading a column by Carol DePino of the El Dorado Times(Kansas.) Mrs DePino expressed her belief in the good in people, showed examples of extreme and mild heroism and essentially said there is a hero in all of us. The title of her column that day was "Heroism is a matter of degree." Zimbardo's starting his world wide heroism movement, he calls The Hero Imagination. no doubt was at least partially inspired by Mrs DePino. Too bad she died of cancer before finding out she was quoted there and in a few other places. So...the book was a great work by a great social psychologist who has many very readable books and continues on an advisory basis fo Stanford U and heads their anti terrorism efforts. I highly recommend the book The Lucifer Effect and regret that Mrs DePino's columns haven't been put into book form. So, you got a review on a great book already published and another that'll probably never be published. And you may ask, how can this book help lessen terrorism? Zimbardo advises leaders as well as followers. He's on the right track in saying we're all capable of evil and in recognizing Mrs DePino's philosophy in also believing in the good waiting inside all of us for an opportunity. That recognition of good even among terrorists could snap them into a more benevolent mode as no doubt they've been taught but have turned to evil ways, killing without consideration for the innocent people they're killing, including children. We shall see, but I fear a lot of politicians will try to grab credit for it.

I think everyone should read this and other books by Dr Zimbardo.

Product was in excellent condition as described!!

I have only just begun to read this book, but at the end of Chapter 2, I am more engrossed in it than I thought I would be. I learned about the Stanford Prison Experiment in college and was always fascinated by the study, reading about it first hand in narrative form by Dr. Zimbardo, makes it that much more fascinating. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the fields of human behavior, criminal behavior, and why people do what they do.Lire l'avis complet...
