Wonderful with great features

I purchased the VHS of the Hobbit years ago when my children were young. Now I have grand children and my VHS player had eaten some of my VHS tapes. Excellent purchase, great bargain.

The Hobbit is a classic adventure tale, beautiful animated! This story remains a very faithful, if abbreviated, version of the Hobbit book. While the animation and subject material may be a little too intense for the VERY young, it is a highly recommended family classic by me! This bargain is a must have in every movie collection.
This disk contains only the movie, there are no special features.

A Nostalgic Bounty of Magical Excellence

This movie is so fantastic, it's difficult to know where to begin in regards to "reviewing" it. The DVD itself is great and the artwork on the cover is amazing. If you grew up with this movie as I did, you know that one big advantage here is that it obviously outshines the VHS version merely because of the increased lifespan of the DVD disc over the VHS tape, not to mention the menu features that offer all kinds of goodies that you wouldn't get otherwise. I am really particular when it comes to things that I have sentimental attachment to, and this movie certainly falls into that category, but while I do have a soft spot for the "original", this re-release offers the same great film with the added benefits of new age technology.

As for the movie itself, the quality and integrity is fantastic. This is definitely one of those movies that stick with you and, upon re-watching, remind you why you loved it in the first place. It's an excellent film for the young and old alike, providing all the staples of a good movie including songs, action, and a killer plot, and even though CGI and Pixar-style movies are all the rage nowadays, I think it's safe to say that The Hobbit is sure to be a favorite amongst many for a very long time...especially given the newer live-action Lord of the Rings sequels.

Still singing the songs

Saw this as a kid and loved it, now I watch it with my kid. The animation is definitely old fashioned but the voice acting is top notch (John Huston as Gandalf!) And those 60’s songs get stuck in my head!Lire l'avis complet...

The Hobbit

I purchased the movie for my son, who is reading the book. He and I both agree that the soundtrack is really bad. By that, I mean the music is terrible. Bad lyrics, really bad singing, bad everything.

Aside from that, the movie is entertaining and light. It follows the storyline fairly well, of course at a far less detailed level.

I don't think the character races, particularly the elves, goblins, and trolls, are visually depicted in accordance with the book descriptions. In fact, all of the characters features are exaggerated in an over the top cartoony way. That being said, the artwork, particularly the backgrounds, are very good for the era.

This is a good introduction to the J.R.R Tolkien world for a younger child, as was the book, "The Hobbit".Lire l'avis complet...

Short and sweet.

This is a true-to-the-book, animated Hobbit. It is very abridged, but it is well done for an animated flick, and is fun to watch. Good way to introduce young children to the Hobbit.
