5-stars for the movie itself...

...but if you're a fan, you probably don't want the (U)HD version. Here's why:

This is a great film, made during a time in the industry when practical effects were still relevant, and (in this and certain other films) used to great effect right along side CG effects. However, while practical effects are great for adding authenticity and realism to movies shot on film and played at 24fps, once you scan that film at 4k and down-sample to 1080p, there is suddenly *too much* realism. The reality you see isn't a fantastic near-future full of flying cars and FTL space travel, it's one of prop and set artists "making do" with limited budgets of both time and money. As hard-working and talented as they are, the inevitable imperfections of paint, plaster, and latex still show through with crystal clarity. If you're a prop aficionado, and you want razor-sharp stills so you can replicate every last detail of Leeloo's MultiPass, this is great news, but if you want to (vicariously) go on a space adventure without your disbelief constantly kicking back in, it's not so good.

TL;DR -- Prop replicators: get it! Movie buffs: stick to DVD.Lire l'avis complet...

Fifth Element Remaster

This is the blu ray Fifth Element fans of this movie have been waiting for. I have an Oppo 103D player; Pioneer Elite VSX-52 receiver; and 7.2 Atlantic Technology speaker system. The moment I popped in the remaster it was obvious how incredible this version is - by leaps and bounds over any other version. Chapter two has some complex rendering, and all other versions exhibited obvious video noise, but not this one. I've already viewed it twice. It is an absolute masterpiece now. The only caveat I would add is that one have a worthy blu ray player. I doubt any cheapo BD player would do this movie justice. Highly highly recommended.Lire l'avis complet...

Second sight

The DVD version had dismal video quality, but the 4K scan blu Ray is like watching it for the first time. Sure some of the digital effects are dated, but the picture and sound are BEAUTIFUL! Well worth seeking out, along with Leon: The Professional. Excellent!!Lire l'avis complet...

Overview

Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich both play outstanding roles. I love the special effects in the futuristic backdrop if you will, of this feature.

New Fifth Element Well Worth The Money

Color and clarity always outstanding and the new ATMOS surround sound mix is AWESOME!
