The Death of the Tirpitz (1979 Book, Illustrated)

This is the story of the German Battleship Tirpitz. She was the second and final ship in the Bismarck class. Like her sister ship, she was a Monster. At more than 800 feet long and a maximum operating weight of 60,705 tons, this monster could travel at speeds of 35 mph, and accurately fire 15-inch shells almost 23 miles with accuracy! Perhaps the best thing that could be said of Tirpitz, is that she was never allowed to break out into the Atlantic Ocean where she surely would have caused more havoc than imaginable. The Tirpitz was destroyed in the only possible manner, by aerial bombardment. Since her hull was 13-inches thick at the waterline, she was impervious to normal torpedo attack. The British sank her with 12,500 pound "TallBoy" bombs. Two direct hits with one striking a magazine, were required to send her down. This ship, along with the Bismaeck, were probably two of the finest battleships ever built, anywhere. This book is very nicely illustrated, and contains all of the technical data that you would expect. is a quality hard-covered work and will surely provide hours of reading enjoyment.Lire l'avis complet...
