Bratfest at Tiffany's
The characters of "The Clique" series are spoiled brats that anyone but a twelve-year-old girl would love to hate. Vain, greedy, cruel, pampered, and superficial to the Nth degree, the 'pretty committee' have a horrid charm, rather the observation of a five car pile-up--one cannot look away. If I had a daughter like one of these, not only would I send her to a Muslim country for a reality check, I would be afraid to unbar her door at night. I'm not sure that I would buy a copy for any girl of gentle or loving personality; a tender-hearted girl would simply be put off by the antics of these dum-dums. The popularity of the series indicates that an entertainment has at last been created for the anti-social portion of the literate juvenile market which has been neglected for so long. Yet these characters are no female version of Holden Caulfield. Insolent and self-obsessed, they are well on their way to various forms of addiction, leading one to visualize future titles as the 'Pretty Committee on Suicide Watch', 'Wannabes in Nine-Step' and 'Mass Funerals for Anorexics'. Not for nothing, I guess, is the much-maligned school slanged as OCD--those are, of course, the initials for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. If you want role models for your daughters, the girls of the Clique offer nothing but distorted mirrors, which can be funny but disturbing when taken too seriously. Very good book! A must have for all collectors!
This book is a must have for all buyers wanting to collect the complete CLIQUE series. The story line follows Claire as she and Massie battle it out to win the starring role in the movie with some very famous people as co-stars. Any tween girl can relate to the everyday challenges Claire, Massie, Dylan, Alicia, and Kristen face, from boys, school, friendships, to betrayal. These girls face about everything imaginable and they still seem to come up on top. EXCELLENT READING!
My daughter read this book in less than 2 days and loved every minute of it! She said she can't wait until another book comes out in this series. She wants to own the entire collection (which she currently does). I approve of the material in it and I love the character setup. Of course I am still on my first book, my daughter has no problem telling me who did what and who is mean, etc. She loves this series and I love that she has found books that she can't put down!Lire l'avis complet...
