Quite simply, the finest book ever written
The title comes from the Nicholas Lezard "Guardian" review. I totally concur. I have been terrified of the "Anatomy" and its 1400 pages of intense text for 15 years, but after finally opening and reading parts of it,I got hooked! It is an absolutely fabulous explanation of emotional symptomatology, but much more than that, it is a treatise on sociology, religion, politics, sex, literature, and physical geography, pretty much everything known in the 17th Century (and it is amazing how much they knew!)What is very nice about this particular version is its usability. I own 6 copies, from 1632 forward, at varying prices, but all are a bit delicate, due to age, and the way a 1000 page book is clumsy and cannot endure too much punishment. This copy is extremely well bound, opens well, doesn't crack or fox. Inside, the complex Latin phrases are translated, and the typeface is inviting. It's easier to read than Shakespeare, harder than Dan Brown, but totally unforgettable. Scott Schwartz M.D.Lire l'avis complet...
