excellent. showed a time in history that required courage, skill, determination and excellent charactors. Great Classic Movie worth every penny of $5-$10!

I cannot believe anyone wouldn't like this film, but then again if people like the NEW 300 film that is why. This film has REAL actors in it that were well known at the time and CAN act. I suggest people having a problem with this movie because of the lack of special effects and Cartoon action and think the acting isn't good should watch Khartoum, 4 feathers (1930s version), Pollyanna to see a couple of the actors in other roles and then come back and say they cannot act. lol

This film is 100% more accurate than the trash film 300 recently released. With History movies like that next we will have the Hobbits fighting the Napoleonic Wars! Each film changes times and seasons where people today would not know what is truth and fiction, pretty soon it will be like a star Trek episode were the History of World is Fantasy with Elves Dwarfs and Goblins, because someone watched an old History movie called Lord of the Rings. lolLire l'avis complet...

awesome movie my brother is the biggest fan of the Spartans and we have both versions, and just sets it in the dvd player and gets lost and quiet to only a whisp of air could be heard, LOL
He has played it since we had it, and he thanked for getting it for him.

"Historically more on the mark"

The actors were very good & the movie itself draws you in every time you watch it,.. I would recommend this version over the newer 300 hands down for it's realism & quality acting for the time...Apart from the hollywood moments,there were scenes that were pretty on the money ,,,That's why i give this movie 5 out of 5 stars !!!Lire l'avis complet...

a mediocre saga

This is a much more realistic treatment of the story of the Spartans holding on for a lost cause, but for their love of honor and country. Here, unlike the recent flick, Xerxes is all too human, and his frustrations all too real. The film itself is a bit mediocre, its main atractions are in the huge armies gathered to do battle, and its main fault in that it doesn't quite build to any great tension point, but rather, it slowly, way too slowly, builds to its inevitable climax. That was very dissapointing for me, perhaps its simply too dated to be compared to modern SPFX loaded cinema. The film does the job, but its simply too slow and meandering to recomend very much at all.Lire l'avis complet...

The 300 Spartans, a classic.

I am a history buff and the story of the Spartans stand at Thermopylae is one of my favorites. I had recently seen the new movie "300" and had enjoyed it. While it was visually very good it was somewhat strange factually and historically. "The 300 Spartans" on the other hand was much closer to the mark historically. It is an older movie and so does not have the flash or special effects of the new movie, but the battle scenes, the weapons and armor, and the costumes and scenery are quite good. The story is very well written and includes all the famous quotes and events that I had hoped it would. I highly recommend it and would also strongly recommend Steven Pressfield's excellent novel "Gates of Fire."Lire l'avis complet...

The 300 Spartans

One of the classics-this is the ORIGINAL 300 Spartans movie. Starring Richard
Egan as King Leonidis of Sparta who upon learning of the invasion of Greece
by King Darius and his Persian army asks the Senate of Sparta to allow him to
take the professional and best army of the Country to aid other Greecian city-states in stopping the Persians. Like all politicians the Spartan Senate can
not get their act together and vote on allowing the freeing of the army- so
Leonidis in frustration takes his own Palace Guard of 300 men to try to delay
the Persians. The great battle at Themopoly (sp) ensues and while the 300
Spartans lose the battle-they succeed in getting the Spartan Senate to free
the Army which later with the other Greek armies defeat the Persian forces.

Serious Greatness
