Always happy with Chabon
I first discovered that Chabon won a Pulitzer Prize for a book based on creating comic books at the dawn of their creation. I bought, happily Adventures of Clay ........., at a local library sale. Finally getting to it in months. A really entertaining book, even if you are NOT a comic book nerd like myself. I had a chance to read Telegraph one time on a book circle. But I missed out, I may have too busy.
Now I finally revisited this book. Colorful characters, great Vinyl flashbacks of San Fran in the 1960s 1970s and how the city changed to this present day of the early 2000s. Seems a mega blockbuster is coming to town not only involving a Wal mart type store but a movie house and other attractions. The main character owns a record shop called Telegraph records and is influnced to sell out to this behemoth and cash in a lot of money OR keep his self-respect and stay open as a David to the goliath.
I have also read Mysteries of Pittsburgh (okay, an early work so it is flawed) and the Yiddish policemans ........ (fabulous, stunning, incredible!!)Lire l'avis complet...
