Target: Renegade rocks!
For those that loved the cheesy beat em up called Renegade, prepare for the next level. Target: Renegade offers the same punch em and kick em fun that the original offered as well as some weapons and more diverse locations. The visuals have improved quite a bit thanks to artist Craig Houstin, and the game is just long enough that it avoids feeling tiresome and repetitive.
That being said, there are some things not so wonderful about the game. For straters, it's hard. And I don't mean challenging. It's just plain hard! Enemies will exploit your every weakness and some do far more damage than they should considering they're in the early stages of the game. Target: Renegade also fixed the control issues of the previous game by keeping the punch button and kick button the same(As opposed to the original where turning around changed punch to kick and kick to punch) However, the ability to grab, knee and toss the enemies was also removed. This makes the combat feel a bit stripped down when compared to, say, the first Double Dragon. Timing your attacks is also a bit harder than it should be. One miss-step, and your flying kick is absolutely useless. Gang members also surround you too easily, so the damage you take in a few seconds is usually fatal.
