Excellent alternative to the Canon lens

First, it is very heavy and solidly constructed. Image quality is excellent. When extended fully and photographing objects relatively far away, in Florida, at least, the image contrast is lower due to the effects of humidity, dust, etc. At closer distances it performs very well at all focal lengths. If you are shooting things other than lens charts, you will be very impressed with your results. As mentioned in another review, the switches are pretty easy to move accidentally, so be careful with that. Overall, I am very well satisfied, especially considering the very low price.Lire l'avis complet...

Great looking, great performance, good in low light, VC and value is superb

I considered this lens and the Canon equivalent for my EOS 500, principally for wildlife work. I tested both. It is about 5% heavier than the Canon. This lens however is newer, has excellent vibration compensation (i.e. the canon IS equivalent), is silent when focussing and fast. Seems good in low light. Perhaps not so relevant, but it also looks great on the camera body! Many people comment on its appearance when extended and using the included hood. This lens is as close as you can get to a professional one, at an excellent price. Tamron have made a better lens than Canon this time, and I guess this is reflected in the price point - not quite the difference in price to the Canon that there used to be - but worth it.Lire l'avis complet...

VERY Surprised By This Little Lens

I purchased this lens to fill the gap between 2 of my other lenses. I didn't expect much from it as the price was low, and I hadn't seen many ratings on it and the ones I did see were about half and half. I figured for under $100 I would give it a try.

And, WOW was I surprised at the quality of the photos this lens takes. The quality of the photos is as good, and better in some instances, then lens I have that cost 5 to 6 times this amount.

Being 28-105, this is a great size for a walk around lens, and it does make a great one. I find myself putting this lens on my camera quite a bit due it its size and weight (almost nothing compared to others I have), and there have been times I didn't take it and wished that I had of after walking around a few hours. And, like all Tamron lenses, a lense hood is included with this lens.

This is one lens I highly recommend. Price is low (right around $100 - I paid $99.99 new), size is great, and the photos can't be beaten. I will grant you that this isn't a professional lens by no means, but then again I'm not a professional either, although I am picky about my photos, and other things. If you don't believe me just ask my wife and children and they will tell you the same.

So if you are just getting into the digital world, want to upgrade form the kit lens, or are just looking for a lens that you can walk around with all day with feeling like your arm is going to fall off, then look no further as you have found it here.

Like I said this lens surprised me with the photo quality, and I am sure you will be happy with it, too.

Great Lens

Likes- Lens works great with the Nikon D60. The lens has great shots and also is easy to use. This lens is wonderful for the amount of pictures I take. It allows me to get close and the pictures are awesome as well.

cons- The ring is a little tight at 1st, but a believe after some manual shots it should lesen up. The lens cap on the rear is sometimes a pain to put back on but it works well. Also this lens doesn't have the "dot" to line up with the camera body when you switch lens.

Overall great product and will buy again soon. The $ for everything I received was way over $350.00 if I purchased at my local camera shop. Great purchase and now my neighbor is looking at getting one for his Nikon as well.

Light, Good and Sharp

Pros:
Lightweight and not too big
Sharp image
Excellent VC
Fast focus (silent, at least I can't hear it)

Cons:
looses a bit of sharpness in the corners at 300mm wide open but really nothing to worry about.

In short, a really handy and easy zoom that gives good quality images, won't break the bank and is great for hiking and biking.

Tamron AF 75-300mm Vs. Canon 75-300mm USM

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 USM 75-300mm

Tamron AF 75-300mm f 1:4-5.6 LD TELE-MACRO (672D) Lens

If you are looking for a really technical review/ comparison of these two lens, that is not what I am going to do. I am comparing these two lenses for the person who has purchased an entry level Canon DSLR camera and is looking for a cheap mid-range zoom lens.

First off, neither of these two lenses are high quality in build or performance. It could be argued that if you are serious about photography that you will overlook these two lens and spend a little more to get a better lens. If you are just going to use a zoom rarely, one of these might be worth looking into.

Let’s assume now that you are looking to choose one of these lenses. What is the same with the two lenses. The physical size is pretty close and they are both f/4-5.6 75-300mm lenses. On paper the specifications are pretty close.

So which one do I choose? The Canon uses a 58mm filter size which is the same as the kit lens for the Canon. The Tamron uses a 62mm filter. If you are not wanting to buy all different filters, then Canon has this in their favor.

The Auto-Focus motors are different. The Canon has a Micro USM and the Tamron has a DC motor. What this means is that the Canon may focus a little quicker and smoother than the Tamron. In actual use the Tamron is a little bit noisier that the Canon but the focus speed is about the same. The better Canon lens use a Ring USM which is quicker, smoother and quieter. Canon also has a version of the 75-300mm with a DC motor that is a few dollars less. There is no clear winner here.

The build quality is pretty much the same on these lens. The Tamron is slightly heavier but the Canon feels a little tighter. Both are plastic and fairly light. Again, there is no clear winner for build quality.

Now to the important part of the review, ‘What do the pictures look like?’ I have three shots that I use to test or check out lens; (1) the key lock slot on a trailer that is about 300 feet away, (2) the top of a large evergreen tree about 500 feet away, and (3) a broken branch that is about 200 feet away. All the photos are taken in the late afternoon so the sunlight is directly shining in the target.

All the shots were done with a Canon Digital Rebel 500D mounted on a tripod and taken using a wired remote. Both of the lenses have multicoated UV filters.

Shot (1) shows me how crisp the focus is as well as how well the bright white and the shadows look. The Tamron lens at 300mm lacks contrast and the key lock slot on the trailer is not clearly defined. The Canon lens at 300mm has pretty good color and contrast. The key lock slot is very clearly defined. These results are fairly consistent from 75-300mm.

Shot (2) shows me if the focus is clear and shows me the degree of chromatic aberration (I know this is a technical term but I do check it out) of the lens. The Tamron fails this shot consistently. The focus is worse than unclear. I have used manual and auto focus with the same results. The branches, needles and pine cones all appear to be in a haze. As you zoom into the picture (100 %) on your computer screen you can see the cyan colored outlines. The chromatic aberration is terrible and whatever f-stop you choose. The Canon does very well with this shot. The branches, needles, and pine cones are both clear and well defined. There is a very slight chromatic aberration but not enough to be distracting.

Shot (3) is

Exactly what i was looking for!

I recently bought a Sony A300 Digital SLR. I have had manual Tamrom lenses with my old 35mm cameras and love their quality. This lense came looking brand new and worked with my new camera perfectly. I was stunned to get such a great lense at a great price. Optics are clear, focusing is fast, and quality of photos even at max zoom is perfectly sharp and clear. The lense is super light, which is excellent for the type of photos I've been taking, its easy to hold up without fatigue for long periods of time. This very quickly could become my favorite lense.Lire l'avis complet...

Nice lense

First you have to understand that this is my very first zoom lense. With that being said though I do understand the pricing of a good lense. I really expected soemthing kind of lacking quality. I was surprised that it felt just like my nikon lense that came with my d40x. I Looked it over and then installed it on my camera snapped off a couple of pictures and was very pleased with clairty, how the lense AF did actually work. I have heard others say that the AF is very slow, and it may be slow but for what I shoot it will be just fine. For what i do know I feel this is a very good lense in its price range. Did I mention the six year warranty...Lire l'avis complet...

Amazing lens for the money!!!

Actually great lens for ANY money, in my opinion... I'm glad I lost the bid on the nikor lens now. I bought this lens when I lost the bid on a similar nikor lens for my nikon D5000. I already had an 18-55 and a 55-200mm VR lens but wanted a little more focal length to for wildlife photography. The 200mm just wasn't quite enough for the shots I wanted. I wound up cropping almost every picture and a lot of them were too grainy to use. I bid on the nikor 55-300mm VR and lost the bid by $5. I saw this Tamron lens for less than half the money and included a cleaning kit and photo magazine subscription. My curiosity got the best of me and I bought the Tamron. It said it was a macro lens and I was never too impressed with the "VR" (vibration reduction) on the nikor lens anyway. It blew my mind when I saw the quality of the pictures! Not only were the images bigger/closer than with the 200mm, they looked sharper and didn't deteriorate as much when cropped. I couldn't be more pleased with the lens.Lire l'avis complet...

Wildlife Lens

I did some research into a good wildlife lens and came upon this lens. I really disliked it at first because I didn't have any instructions. I stuck w/it and have achieved some amazing photos. I do not find it nosiy, and do have some lens flare (sorry, don't know what this is called). I was surprised at the slowness of the lens. However, with practice this can be overcome w/0 any serious issues. I would buy it again. I shoot birds in flight mainly, and it serves my purposes well. I'm still learning the marco side, but am hopeful it will meet my needs here as well.Lire l'avis complet...
