Perfect SLR lens for me

I am using this 18-200mm lens with a Nikon D3100 camera. This camera uses a smaller sensor size than a full-size SLR. This means that all "mm" specifications have to be multiplied by 1.5.

That makes this lens a 27-300mm wide-angle to zoom eqeuivalent, which I like, because I prefer to have more zoom than more wide angle -- and 27mm wide angle is already enough. 300mm is the equivalent of a 6x zoom lens.

The lens is reasonably compact at 3.5 inches long. Wen not extended, it is the size of my hand wrapped around it, so a comfortable size. When zoomed all the way, the lens extends by another 3 inches.

The aperture is small (f3.5 for wide angle and f6.3 for maximum zoom), but that is to be expected with this low of a price. Since zoom photos are always taken outdoors, this is not too much of a problem.

The filter ring size is 62mm, but it comes with a sun shade which also help keep fingers off the glass.

The lens works exactly as you would expect: manual zoom control, auto or manual focus.
In addition, the anti-vibration can be turned off, which you want off at slow shutter speeds. There is a lock that keeps the lens from extended by accident, such as when you carry the camera hanging down.

Handy all around lens.

This Tamron lens is an improvement over the previous version of this lens from Tamron. The reviews on it spoke of sharper images. I would agree with that. This is significantly cheaper than the Nikon version of this lens and is smaller and more light weight from my observation. Shot wide open in most focal lengths you will experience some vignetting, however, the best images come from around the middle area of the F stops and for sure the vignetting disappears at that point.Lire l'avis complet...

Happy and just in time

Received the lens and the first picture taken was of my wife. She has to perform her “quality control” on any pics of her. She was amazed at the detail level in the pic.
I used it to take pics during Thanksgiving. With a family of about 20 gathering at my home, taking a family pic around the dinner table provided great results. Having the ability to take candid pics from across the room to preset up close poses and not having to switch lenses was very nice. Very happy with this lens.Lire l'avis complet...

Good Value For Money

An excellent lightweight DSLR lens capable of taking sharp pics. Smooth, quiet operation. Lens works perfectly well with my Nikon D3100. Sample pics taken with the lens given. Reasonably priced. Good value for money. Absolutely happy with owning and using it in my random outdoor photography sessions. Indoor pics are also good.Lire l'avis complet...

Awesome for the money

the Nikon was literally twice the price, for just one less f-stop (5.6 vs 6.3)- I just didn't think that one f-stop less justified paying double the price! The Tamron is quiet, focuses fast enough, and I'm no professional but the images are more than sharp and colorful enough for me. Plus, I tend to not max zoom, so the 5.6- 6.3 apertures don't matter much to me anyway. Add to that the fact that Tamron backs it with a 6 year warranty, versus Nikons' 1 year, and it's an all around deal that just can't be beat! Lire l'avis complet...

Great product and price reasonable too!

I bought this for my daughter and so far its great! My older daughter who has her own photography business, recommended a Tamron for the price and quality. She is still learning how to use it, but pictures are turning out awesome!Lire l'avis complet...

Nice DX lens

Works well with my DX camera. Not for an FX. I like the range of this lens, but if you want to take photos in dim lighting, use a tripod. I'm using it on my IR converted Nikon D3100.

Not very strong telephoto, good mid range

Don't make the mistake I did in thinking this was gonna let me take good images of far away objects. It just is not very strong. It also is very limited on the other end, you can't get good shots very close up. The middle range is nice and sharp. Lire l'avis complet...

This all-purpose lens is a great value.

The beauty of this 18-200mm Tamron lens is its versatility. I can photograph within a few feet, and then I can zoom out to a long distance -- both images clear and sharp. I also have high praise for the people at Alpine Camera Company in Des Plaines, Illinois. They were very helpful and professional.Lire l'avis complet...

DOES IT ALL AT GREAT PRICE!

The perfect companion to a portrait lens. Takes gorgeous telephoto shots, and unlike a fixed distance prime lens, it allows you to stay put and still get the shot you want- super up close, and especially bringing distant object into the spotlight with beautiful bokeh and color.Lire l'avis complet...
