Have 25-30 USD to spend on headphones? Try these and keep them even if they are not your first/only pair.

TL;DR... Review Title.

These headphones are very hot, the sibilance sometimes might 'hurt' your ears because it has like a very high peak not sure at which frequency but some S and cymbal sounds are just piercing if they fixed that hot peak these would be extremely impressive for the money. They are not as controlled so if you are looking for extremely high fidelity these might not be your best bet, but i would easily say that around twice the price or even 3-4 times the price (considering they can cost aroud 25 bucks) you will hardly find anything better, heck they might even make you rethink about how much you actually like more expensive headphones you might have in your collection.

The only thing, [[besides that hot treble peak and maaaaaybe veeeeery slightly cardboardy sounding but very unveily and clear mids (bass i think is just about right for open back headphones)]], that i would be afraid about when using these could be build quality since i just got them so i don't know for how long these will last, but for the price even if they last 1-2 years i would feel they already did some very good service. Hopefully they will last even longer than that. If you have 25-30 to spare and you want to try another set of headphones i would easily tell you to just go for these and experience what they have to offer, i believe they could easily fit into any headphone collector's repertoire even if at the very least as a curiosity, the curious case of cheap but satisfying/fun sounding headphones.

Comfort i believe to be a strong feature as well, very lightweight, nice 'clamp' strength, relatively easy exchangable earpads and potentially cheap as well, there are even some modding examples (you don't even need to dig hard to find them). They could have used some detachable cables but there's even a mod for that out there. It includes the 2 most common plugs for portable devices and for amps and a funny pouch that just kinda feels like it adds value to the whole thing even if cheaply made.

I WILL be using these MORE (probably WAY MORE) than i thought before getting them (one pair for the office, one pair for home sort of thing with some other model being for home).

I don't add pictures to this review cause everybody knows what they look like.

Good for the price.

Pros -
Good accessories.
Good price.
Great sub-bass.
Good sound for price.

Cons -
These headphones are not exactly 'over-ear' headphones because they really sit on your ear, and are to small to be true over ear headphones, they are still decently comfortable though.

Bass is a little more pronounced than mids or highs.

Not really open headphones either, these are at best semi-open, leaning more towards closed, but you can still hear outside noises. They don't have a huge sound stage.

Great sound, great price.

Clear bass, not a boosted muddy sounding mess like and overpriced brand that rhymes with "eats". Mid range also clear and sounds good. Treble a little bright but good. Well worth the price. Even at a higher price these would still be worth buying. Feels sturdy and comfortable. I would buy these again.Lire l'avis complet...

Superb Performance and Value for Price

Really great headphones. Light. Comfortable. Excellent audio performance. Deep rich, but not bloated, bass. Crisp mid range and treble. Well balanced sound over the whole spectrum. Get a set of really comfy soft ear pads and you have it made in the shade. Get the pads where the photo shows a guy squishing the thick, yet very soft pads. I like these cans more than ATH50x, ATH40, and lots of other headphones costing three to five times as much. Super value for the price. TTLire l'avis complet...

Really? I got these for only $25? I can't believe it !!

I bought my HD 661s for $25.00 shipped. I feel like I stole them !! Really? I only paid $25.00 for them? These headphones are easily worth twice that.

COMFORT: 4 out of 5 stars
These are very, very lightweight headphones. Clamping force is just right. Not too tight, not too loose. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars for comfort is that the ear cushions are also made of vinyl. Vinyl ear cushions always make my ears sweat and these are no exception. I wish they would have made the ear cushions out of velour material. If they had, I would have given them 5 stars for comfort.

SOUND QUALITY 4.5 out of 5 stars
Sound quality is very good. To my ears, these are almost as well balanced as my Sony MDR-V6s (THE industry standard for studio monitor headphones). I can't believe I just said that !! The Sony MDR-V6s (and the MDR-7506s) are world renowned for their accurate, neutral sound reproduction. The Superlux HD 681s are very, very close to to the MDR-V6s in sound quality. Very, very pleased with the sound quality from the HD 681s. Everything pretty much in balance. Bass, mids and treble all arrives just in time with very little over run or bleeding. If I had to fault them in one spectrum, it would be in the lows. On heavy bass tracks and at high volumes, the lower end of the spectrum can get a bit muddy and congested.

Overall, I would rate them a 4.25 out of 5 stars. Hell, since I only paid $25.00 for them, I'll go ahead and round them up to a 5 out of 5 stars.

Best Benefit

Well, i'm not a pro in audio, i'm just make a few productions to me and other musicians.
As everybody says, a phone, for better as it is, DO NOT SUBSTITUTE a pair of monitors and a
good acoustic treatment to make a good mix.
However, i don't have monitor nor acoustic treatment, so I opt for do a "NOT-SO-BAD" MIX got this pair of HD681 to substitute an AKG K44.
In matching to AKG44, HD681 have really, really much better in sound, mainly in the brightness and the low frequencies.
Strong build, good price, better sound in category.

Thumbs Up!

Stunned at this price!

I bought them on the recommendation of dozens of owners on head-fi.org I haven't been steered wrong by that site and these headphones are no exception. $44 including shipping and they now I am serious here on a good amp perform as well maybe better than $300 headphones, I own a pair of Sennheiser HD580's AKG K240 Sextetts, have owned AKG K601's, Ultrasone Proline 750 running off a Sansui AU-X201i integrated amplifier. Now the Superlux's are by far the easiest of all the mentioned headphones to power but the amp used is sufficient for most except the K240's which need a nuclear power plant to get to their full potential. The Superlux is very bright I had to pretty much go with a flat EQ otherwise it was too much for me. The bass is deep and impactful this is a must buy for any bass head It isn't bloated like Bose or Monster headphones I have tried.

The build quality is ok, they aren't made of magical unicorn bones and fairy dust or anything but they dont feel like they might fall apart easily.

Based on how much they cost and how they sound I would happily rate them a 10/10 you won't regret making this purchase unless you are a communist even then the red trim might sway you.

Worth ten times the cost in sound quality and enjoyment. Proper FR

Amazing headphones, the frequency response approximates the AKG K271 mkII but with a more appropriate amount of bass, and is similar to the MDR-V6. This is a true monitoring headphone and simultaneously provides amazing enjoyment for simple listening. They are worth $300 in sound quality. Superlux used to manufacture and design for larger companies that simply marked the product up in price and resold. You're getting it from the source, from the design pros.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent Headphones for the Price

Great Headphones. Excellent Sound reproduction. I am not treble sensitive so this are very good headphones for me. Neither do they clamp on my head so much to be uncomfortable, even without band adjustment

Considering the price, it is really a bang for buck headphone
