Super Mario All-Stars on the Nintendo Wii: some may like it, some may not.

First off, for those wondering if the game can be played in 240p with the system set to 480i, that is not the case. This may disappoint those who want the true retro experience on their CRT television. Thankfully, the game is playable in 480p for those using a YPbPr component cable to connect their Wii to their HD television, and the upscaling to 480p looks absolutely crisp.
As for the game itself, this is ultimately what you would expect from Super Mario All-Stars, originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. The four games play very nicely and there is very minimal input latency when using the Wii Remote or Classic Controller. Speaking of Wii Remote, that is the best part about the controls; this is the only Super NES game on the Wii that can be played with the Wii Remote held sideways.
Sadly, not a great deal of innovation was made in this rerelease of All-Stars compared to the original. Many glitches that happen in the original are still present, though the ones that don't softlock the game are fairly minor.
All-Stars was one of my most favorite games on the Super NES, and this "limited edition" on the Wii really helps to relive the memories I have of playing this game with my cousins. Overall, I am not disappointed with my purchase of this game.

All Stars on Wii

Just like the original version, but now you can play with a variety of controllers. You can use the wii mote turned sideways, wii classic controllers, nes classic mini controllers, if you're playing on a gamecube compatible wii you can play with a gamecube controller, but the D-pad on the gamecube controller just doesn't feel good for Mario's side scrolling action. Comes with instructions to view a digital manual, health and safety warnings and that's it, no manual. It has 4 full games: Super Mario bros 1, 2, 3 and Lost levels. Lost levels is actually Super Mario bros 2. The game Americans know as Super Mario 2 was actually taken from Japanese Famicom game called "Doki Doki Panic". Nintendo of America though the Japanese Super Mario 2 was too difficult. So they took an existing game, changed the characters to Mario, Luigi, Princess and Toad, added the ability to run, and change a few minor visual aspects and called it Super Mario bros 2. We didn't know any better because we didn't have the internet. Anyway, Lost levels is why I bought this game. It's time to play the game Nintendo America that was too difficult for me.Lire l'avis complet...

Great remastered compilation of the original Mario trilogy

Super Mario All Stars is a mix of classic Mario games, remastered for the SNES.

The graphics and sound are nicely updated to reflect the capabilities of the 16 bit SNES. As the game was originally released in the mid 90s, the updates are consistent with the aesthetics of the time, looking much more like Super Mario World and foregoing much of the original looks and sounds. This is mostly noticeable in Super Mario Bros. where some of the characteristics that are the most unique to that game (such as textures of the over world blocks, arrangement of the music, sprite design) are completely changed in favor of an updated aesthetic, whereas Mario games released in more recent years have included more nostalgic elements. Given that at the time this game was released, the original Mario trilogy were not really yet considered "classic" games, this makes sense.

This re-release for the WII maintains everything from the original SNES release, and if you use the WII classic controller you can have a feel that is very similar that of the SNES.

Overall this is a great game that many consider to be a classic all on its own.

Finally found one at a great price.

Getting harder all the time to find this game. Especially at a great price like this. So excited to have all Mario brothers games on one disc. It takes me back to when I was a kid :).

Mario AHHHHHH SO/SO

Big Mario fan was disappointed the music was wrong and the addition of pictures and graphics in the game were unneeded. Example going into a bonus warp a big picture of Mario. Called Mario Classic should leave it that way. Decent games but could of been better by leaving it the same!!!Lire l'avis complet...
