Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

Though it's unfortunate that Capcom hasn't shown much production value by omitting retrospective features and other historical content, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology still plays great despite its age and the number of times we've seen these games before. Street Fighter Alpha 3 is still one of the best fighters of the last 10 years and the other titles in the set are no slouch either. I'm also a big fan of all the extra options and customizable bonuses that Capcom has thrown in for uber-fans and the harder default difficulty brings a new challenge after all these years. This is really, really good stuff... it's just really, really old too.

Presentation
HDD support is nice but you'll still need the disc to run the game and the load improvements are minimal. The boring menus and lack of extra content that's typical for compilations of this type hurts.

Graphics
Aged past its prime, the visuals aren't groundbreaking but they're undoubtedly stylish. Expect interlacing like crazy for special moves (especially on HD sets), but at least there isn't any slowdown.

Sound
Memorable tracks are mixed with forgettable ones across multiple games and the tinny sound effects and voices don't hold up well with time.

Gameplay
A five-game assortment that includes one of the best fighters around, three very good ones, and a novelty are bolstered by some cool customization options. Just make sure to use a stick.

Lasting Appeal
There are a number of possible match-ups here spread out across five games, but nothing particularly compelling to keep us coming back that we haven't seen before.

I can’t stress enough that in order to truly enjoy this game is with an 8 button arcade controller and with at least one other person.

Old school fighting with the classic brawlers.

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology isn't the same exact collection of games as the Anniversary Collection released a while back but it is the definitive collection for fans of the Alpha series of Street Fighter, an equally impressive fighting series produced by Capcom as well. Capcom built upon what they did with with the equally impressive Darkstalkers/Vampire series and it reflects in Alpha, with a similar art style and fighting engine. In all you get 5 titles, Alpha 1, 2, 2 Gold, 3 and Super Gem Fighters Mini Mix (Pocket Fighter). There are also hidden versions to unlock of the games.

My only problem with the collection is the general lack of extras, which feel relatively light in this game. If you love 2D fighting titles this isn't a bad deal, Alpha 3 alone was an impressive title back then and still is to some today.

Not for everybody...

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is definitely one of these games where it's easy to predict if you'll like it or not.

Only those that are BIG on traditional Street Fighter games will have something to like here.

The gameplay is solid if somewhat more difficult that other Capcom's fighters. The graphics are dated but good enough for any Capcom 2D aficionados.

If you're one of these guys that want to own every (good) Street Fighter games, then this is without a shadow of a doubt an essential purchase.

If you only want to own one 2D fighting game, I'd recommend Capcom vs SNK 2 or Hyper Street Fighter II HD Remix over this game.

If you're not at all into fighting game or 2D fighting game, then this game is definitely not for you.

Awesome collection.

If you love SF, and you pretty must do if you play videogames, this is the collection to have.
Including all the Alpha versions, including some secret ones, plus the funny Gem Fighter, this collection will give you a lot to do to get all of the fighters end's and plenty options of versus matchs.
The only cons are the little outdated visuals compared to the new versions (SFIII in particular) and the 4:3 aspect ratio wich hurts the experience a little in 16:9 TV sets.
I'm playing it wihtin a PS3 and the HDD install option doesn't show anywhere, but it's not a problem at all because the loads ar really damn fast.
It'll make me busy until SFIV shows around, and I'll happy to be busy with it.

Great classic with lots of replay value

Game is a great part of any SF collection and is one of the best versions to hit PS2 that is still relevant today, making this a true classic. Awesome game play that stays true to the arcade vibe style of play and feel that really brings you back to the good old days. Great content and definitely a gem to keep!Lire l'avis complet...

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

Pros: A lot of Street Fighter for your buck; The gameplay still stands the test of time

Cons: Much of what made Alpha 3 amazing on PSone is missing; No readily available move list; Still no online multiplayer

Street Fighter Alpha came out at a time when the world was waiting for Street Fighter 3. No matter, as gamers ate up all the spot-on gameplay and retro-fabulous vibe. Capcom has been gracing us with a lot of compilations lately, and Street Fighter Alpha Anthology follows in their fantastic footsteps. It will leave you wanting in a few categories, but it's still a no-brainer for brawler fans.

This collection packs in Street Fighter Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold, and Alpha 3. It even throws in Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix as a bonus, which some of you may remember on PSone as Pocket Fighter. Amazingly, the Alpha trilogy varies enough from iteration to iteration to warrant playing all three. That's ignoring Alpha 2 Gold, however, which is a superfluous addition that only the most dedicated player will find different from the standard Street Fighter Alpha 2.

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

A must have for fans of the Street Fighter series. The bonus version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 that you unlock from completing the other games on disc is by far one of the most complete roster by far. For the price you can find even new still is a great bargain. I picked my copy up brand new still factory sealed 🤐 for around $10 usd.Lire l'avis complet...

I like Street Fighter especially Alpha

I like Street Fighter Alpha ever since it came out on SNES. I like Ryu, Ken, and Akuma, they're my favorite of all the charaters in the game. I decided to buy this game only because I miss playing it, but a newer version I found on ebay just got me interested Street Fighter Ex3 for the PS2, I've been bidding for this game twice and both I've been outbid, and I have another one bidded and yes I am sure I'm not going to let it get away from me this time, it's one of the most hardest game to find.Lire l'avis complet...
