This version of the famous tale is wonderful!
In this version of the folk tale Stone Soup, the illustrations are great and do a nice job supporting the text--which is all about a hungry community whose members begin to make a broth from a stone. Soon, everyone pitches in with vegetables, meats, and herbs and suddenly there is a real feast for everyone to share.
Kids love hearing this story, and it also is easily adaptable for reader's theatre. In addition, it sends a powerful message to kids about community and teamwork. I highly recommend it for primary through intermediate school kids!Lire l'avis complet...
Stone Soup by Ann McGovern
This is a cute story about an old woman who makes soup that begins with just a stone and water. By adding many delicious ingredients that she has available, she creates "a soup made from a stone, fancy that".
I'm a first grade teacher and I make stone soup for my class after sharing the story with the children. They learn the importance of working together and sharing what we have with others. And some of them even like the soup!
I was looking for this version, because I only had a version that had animals as the characters and I wanted it to be more realistic with people as the characters.Lire l'avis complet...
Tristan's Favorite Book!
My son Tristan is in Prek and they started going to the library to check out books on a weekly basis. I read him this book: Stone Soup, one week and when it was time for new books the next week he still had this same book! This happened again and again every week! So his birthday was around the corner and I looked on ebay and sure enough found the same book! I got it at a great price and now he has his own! Fancy That!

Disliked this version of Stone Soup
I really didn't like this version of Stone Soup. The young man seemed rude and greedy... he ordered the old woman to find things for his soup instead of drawing it out of her, as other versions had done. The story is about one young man, and one old woman.. no other characters in the story. I brought this book right back to the library without reading it to my son and bought a different version of Stone Soup off Ebay.Lire l'avis complet...
Stone Soup
I read this story to my kids as they were growing up. Then, we would make "garbage" soup...use chicken broth as a base, onions, broccoli...whatever we had in the refrigerator. The soup was never the same twice! And yes, I used to add a stone! My daughter has an older friend who never heard of the book so she bought it for him!Lire l'avis complet...

Great Fable with Awesome Illustrations
This is the old fable about the man with the stone who talks the lady into adding ingredients so they make soup. It sends the message that if people add to a project with one thing each--you can make something special. The illustrations in this book really make it! They are detailed and interesting and kids seem to enjoy it.Lire l'avis complet...
