Great Classic Biography

I purchased this book to replace one that was lost in a flood-so I knew its value before I purchased it. Though used, it is in very good condition. This book by world renowned Apple computer founder who also created Pixar! It is an excellent biography of an American computer inventor and prefecter. Sadly he was lost to us too soon. Author/editor did a remarkable of painting a word picture of a very complicated and brilliant person. Lire l'avis complet...

A book to learn from and a person which should not be imitated: Jobs.

As a long time Apple User (Mac Book Pro; iMac, Ipod touch) I admired the man behind all this and was quite touched when I knew that he had died so young. I wanted to know more about this brilliant designer and I purchased this biography. which is quite objective and does not try to hide the defects of this great man. Great man, but lousy human being: Arrogant, insulting, destroyer of characters, cruel, intolerant, bad father...and a long etcetera of bad qualities. A great book, which makes you think about what is really important in life. I would not like to be like Mr. Jobs. I prefer not to be so rich, so famous, the creator of so many wonderful projects if I have to be like he was, a person who did not care about others and who definetly was NOT a philantropist like Bill Gates, his rival. The world is going to be a better place without the superego of Mr. Jobs.Lire l'avis complet...

Review will prove that my findings are useless.

So far so good!

You can be assured no spoiler alerts are needed.

LOL. Actually, so far it gives an interesting peek into the things and people that shaped who Steve Jobs was. I'm only a couple chapters in but it will take me some time to finish hence the premature review.

If you are a stickler for paper and binding quality this book delivers albeit a bit short on the binding quality. A heavier weight would have been a nice touch but alas is of no consequence. It feels good in the hand and the glossy paper stock resists my clammy hands whilst holding the book in the hot SoCal sun.

Understand the stars given is for Intro - Chaper 3. LOL

Excellent book on a fascinating life

I haven't read it yet, got it for my 15 year old son for Xmas. However, I am blown away by everything he has told me, definitely want to read it. Saw the author interviewed on TV, I think he did an amazing job in a challenging situation with a very private subject. If Steve's life story were a movie plot, we'd call it implausible but it really happened. He's an amazingly accomplished guy but also far from perfect or saintly. Lots of lessons for all of us to take to our own lives.Lire l'avis complet...

Fascinating Personality--Genius Personified

I gave this book as a Christmas gift to my son who expressed a great interest in acquiring it. However, before wrapping it up, I did read it myself. It was an "excellent take" on Steve Jobs and an extremely well written book. Hats off to the author! He was a fascination as an individual personality and had a genius of a mind. Perhaps he will go down along with Einstine. Only time will tell. It's an excellent read and I highly recommend it.Lire l'avis complet...

Ordering this book multiple vendors conduct; UNACCEPTABLE

My EXPERIENCE USING HALF.COM- While ordering this book was UNEXCEPTABLE
While utilizing the services/ ordering this book multiple vendors conduct; was unacceptable!
I ordered this book 3 separate times,
,(with multiple copies available from each vendor in subsequent order.)
Utilizing “HALF” more than 50 separate orders over the years,
MY EXPERIENCE was VERY DISAPPOINTING /at best, questionable conduct on the vendors part.
Each time I placed my order, in November / December 2010 ,
5-10days later I would receive an email canceling the order refunding my money even later.
This is not rocket science, why ? Immediate confirmation, charge my credit card, then a delayed cancelation, delayed refund.
I FINALLY PURCHASED THE BOOK RETAIL FROM COSTCO (at last I had the book in my hands.)
My current experience with “HALF’ is tainted. Sadly, this is a first, and no one wanted to even apologize; just delay refund, too sad.
Previously I was a huge advocate, and recommended ‘HALF’ to all my friends when ever recommending a book.... not my recommendation now.

A great book and great read for anyone "able" to read this.

I would like to start this review by mentioning that, as a result of discovering the beyond-excellent engineering of the Apple machines, I am a big fan of the product. I have always loved computers and embrace the power the PC gave me in functioning in that realm. What the computers were able to do, and in turn allowed us to do, is just amazing. Total liberation.

The Apple took it a step further with the production abilities. Be it music, photography or Film, among others. The seamless integration of on-board components, making for unimaginable processing, make it such an impressive experience. It gave me a chance to really express myself in a manner most meaningful to me. No longer am I stuck. How all this came together is vividly described in this book.

Steve Jobs is a genius that will go down in history along with the Shakespear's and Da Vinci's. An artist with a critical eye. However, the book sheds light on the entire spectrum of the tech world. From the innovations, set backs and triumphs. All the players are done justice. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Pixar-Disney etc., and the consumer are articulated in a way that does justice to the Legacy of Apple and Steve Jobs. A copy of this Book has a permanent place on my coffee table, just like my furniture and computers have their special places in my apartment. A great book and excellent read. I loved it.

I do, though, wish there was more on the nature of the relationships between Apple and peer companies. Why some products we not compatible with Apple. For example, how Steve Job's gripe with Adobe personnel was the reason Apple did not run Flash on its mobile devices, like the iPhone and iPad. Otherwise it was a great book.

This was a good history of technology.

I have a digital version of the Steve Jobs book and liked the history of the development of computer technology and software as well as the Steve jobs and Bill Gates stories so well that I purchased a hardcover copy, which includes pictures, for each of my four children. They work as a network engineer, an electrical engineer, a graphic artist, and a special education teacher and all their careers are tied to technology. I have worked with most of the computers, software, and technology discussed in the book and wanted the kids (all in their 30s)to be familiar with that history.Lire l'avis complet...
