Does not give any idea of the plot.

The film was on Sky, and I read the synopsis, and decided it might be O.K. Also, I have yet to see Russell Crowe or Helen Mirren in a poor film. They are such good actors, they give credence to any part. Having watched it, I watched it again later, as the plot is very clever, and needs your full attention. I then decided to buy the DVD, as some parts of it are very quiet, and I had a little difficulty following the dialogue, which is the most important part.
There are many twists and turns in the plot, but do not switch off when you think it is the end, it is not!

It is the type of film which can be watched over and over, as the acting is superb, and there is always some little bit which you missed previously.

The supporting actors also make this a very watchable and believable film, but I repeat IT NEEDS YOUR FULL ATTENTION.

Happy viewing.

Excellent American remake of a British TV series

Excellent American version of the British TV series.
Russel Crowe is superb and looks and acts single minded in his quest though one comes away wondering about the messiness of his life.
The supporting actors are all excellent though Helen Mirren is playing her bitchy self so it is difficult to understand what is acting and what is herself.
As normal there are faults in the plot and in some cases it is totally unlikely that the "hero" would take some of the actions in the film. As is now normal in American films everyone seems to show some self doubt and angst (except Mirren) - no wonder the psychologists are having a field day in the good old USA.

Sluggish, boring.

I bought this dvd because I was looking for films with a conspiracy/corruption theme.
Whilst Crowe tried his best with what he was given and Helen Mirren was, as always, on top form, the script and the pace of the film was sadly lacking in any ability to involve.
Afleck was a little better than his usual "I'm Ben Afleck" comedy-acting routine but all told the whole thing is sluggish and disappointing.
To call it "an outstanding thriller" is to beg one to say that Yes, it is, - outstandingly poor.
