When it was first released to movie theaters back in 1986, the Rob Reiner film "Stand By Me" became an instant cinematic classic. Taking place during the summer of 1959 in a small town called Castle Rock, Oregon, the film tells the story of 4 young boys who are also good friends together. On the final weekend of summer vacation before their return to school, they decide to go out and search for another young boy who was tragically killed while picking berries. The quartet consists of "Tough Guy" Chris (River Phoenix) "Eccentric" Teddy (Corey Feldman), "Quiet" Gordie (Wil Wheaton) and "Scardy-Cat" Vern (Jerry O'Connell), who have one unforgettable adventure while searching for the deceased boy. The film is told through the recollections of the main character, Gordie LaChance, a freelance writer. The older Gordie is portrayed by Richard Dreyfuss. It describes how his friend Vern overheard his older brother discussing the body of a missing boy after accidentally coming across it in the woods with his friend. The film contrasts the four main characters, who are depicted as well-meaning and relatively virtuous, with a gang of bullies called the "Cobras", who are led by local hood John "Ace" Merrill (brilliantly portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland). In addition to the fine story and the memorable characters, the film also boasts a great soundtrack consisting of several classic early rock and roll oldies, which are presented at various points of the film. My review as a teen buddy of Stephen King

I am sure Stephen King wrote about me as Vern (the heavier kid) in the movie. In real life Stephen and I first met in the seventh grade and had every class together with him for the next six years with the exception of just two classes... We chummed around during lunches. In our town there was a smaller auto junk yard ,,, and Runaround Pond where there were some leaches as I recall. There were tales of a three foot pickerel (like a Northern Pike) in the Pond which was more like a small meandering river. Mt father almost caught one but it was so strong, it very easily snapped the line. The train tracks ran parallel to the Androscoggin River and did not cross the river, altho the car bridge did fo accross. I loved the movie, because it reminded me so much of out great childhood together.... FrankLire l'avis complet...

I love this movie and always have. I wanted to add it to the VHS collection I have going , mostly bought from ebay. I am buying movies that are hard to find in the store , and movies that I can buy cheap on ebay. Movie is great, its a classic story of boys being boys . Stand By Me

I have always loved this movie~ and when I didn't find it in my favorite collection to share with my boys.. I decided I best buy a copy to show them what a great flick it is/ was.
