Great camera with lots of features!

I purchased this camera several years ago at a retail store for about $200, and was thoroughly impressed with it's multiple features. It takes great pictures with many different mode possibilities. It can take videos (mpeg) as well. I recorded my son's college graduation ceremony, and it turned out good, even though it was inside with low light. If you take a lot of movies, you should invest in a memory stick with more memory (I have a 256 which suits me fine). It fits in my hands perfectly.

Recently, I accidentally dropped my camera while using it, and now the lens will not open. I purchased two of the exact same cameras on ebay, and I havent't been disappointed. I was able to buy 2 for less than $125, and now I have a spare one. I keep it in a Sony camera case made specifically for the Cyber-shot, which helps protect the camera, but it's very pricey.

The only negative feature, I feel, is the zoom. It's only 3x, and a little more would be nice. Maybe my next one will have more zoom.

It's a great camera with a lot of useful features, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Sony DSC-P72

I bought an used digital still camera DSC-P72 on e-bay and I loved it. I think this camera is very robust and easy to use, being indicated for beginners, but it have several features and can be used for advanced photographers too, with good pictures.
Its memory can be increased inserting memory stick duo, and it is very nice too. Well, overall I recommend its purchasing, good value to price.

Pracically perfect in every way

I love this camera. We have had our Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 for just over a year now. It is wonderful because you can easily go from taking still digital pictures to digital movies with sound. Plus it takes away all of the hassel of having to deal with film. Below I listed my top pros and cons of the camera:

Pros: Pictures and movies in one, pictures come out great (4X6), easy to send and share photos, easy to operate, battery life is great (with Sony batteries), and the memory stick allows for a ton of photos and movies. I have a 128 mb (luxar) stick and it stores multiple movies and about 85-90 pics.

Cons: The shutter time is long so if you are trying to take a picture right after another it doesn't work, you have to wait about 3-4 seconds....bad if you have babies! Only Sony batteries work well. I tried to use a cheaper brand of recharcheable batteries but, they just don't last very long...so I've stuck to the manufacturers suggestion of using Sony batteries and they got me all the way through vacation!

Overall this is the best camera I've ever had!

Excellent Camera - easy to use

this is an excellent camera - it has a beautiful picture resolution and is easy to use. Great zoom features. I picked it up and was able to figure it out in about a minute even without the mannual. It is also "plug & play" - I plugged it in and my computer recognized it immediately(I have windows XP). I highly recommend this camera. The only draw back is that you have to delete each photo or movie individually that you cannot just delete the entire card all at once - which may not be a problem for most people but it is a little inconvenient for me because I mainly use this for posting photos on ebay.Lire l'avis complet...

I love this camera, the picture has a very nice quality

I love this camera, the picture has a very nice quality.

Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-P32 is one of three new point-and-shoot, 3.2 Megapixel digital still cameras offered for 2003. The DSC-P72 is the top of the line in this series with a 3x optical zoom, the P32 has a fixed focal length lens and the P52 has a 2x optical zoom. New features include: MPEG VX movie mode which generates high quality VGA-size (640x480) motion video at 16fps with audio. The length of each movie is limited only by the amount of available memory. There are two new program scene modes; Beach scene emphasizes the natural color of the water, Snow scene is used when photographing a predominantly white scene; such as a snow scape.

All of Sony's new 2003 cameras are compatible with the faster and higher-capacity Memory Stick Pro flash memory cards. For reliable, long-lasting operation, The CyberShot DSC-P32 is supplied with two 2100mAH rechargeable nickel metal hydride AA batteries and a charger.

Great little camera

I bought this camera used for my 11 year old son for Christmas. I own the Cybershot P93 5.1 so I chose an older version of the same camera incase he had questions. At this point in time (about 10 days after Christmas) he knows more about the camera than I do! He's taken several videos with sound and a ton of photos. It's very user friendly and my son quickly learned the different features of the camera. He hooked it up to the TV to watch his videos with no problems. It's also very easy to download the photos and videos onto the computer. All in all it's a great little camera.Lire l'avis complet...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 3.2 Megapixel

I have used mine for about 6 years now. I just bought a second used one to replace a lens focus gear damaged in a drop. The used one works well as is so I now have a good one and a usable one.
r>I paid about USD $300 for my first one when new. I paid USD $6 (shipped) for this used camera (only minimal testing). You can probably get a used one for $10 to $20. If used cameras work this well, I don't need to ever buy a new one again.

It does well in various lighting conditions in automatic mode, and it has several other modes (like moonlight, bright sun, etc.) to optimise for special conditions.

It has a large number of individually selectable technical settings (ISO speed, EV+-, auto-focus spot / area, flash settings, etc.) that are actually useful to the slightly technically savvy user.

You need 256 meg or more if you are going to do video. I recall that 1gig of memory does 45 minutes of video or 600 high resolution pictures. Pictures are 1.4 megabytes each in high quality mode. Video is about 22 megabytes a minute in high quality mode. Do the math for your memory stick.

Things that I like:
- Captures video with sound
- Good quality images
- Quick (3 seconds?) to power up to ready
- Many useful on-screen indicators
- Just plug in the USB on your computer (like a USB drive)
and there are the pictures, no software needed.
- On the camera you can review all stored pictures and videos,
including hearing the sound
- Auto focus, auto flash with no pop-up to startle subjects
- Audio/video output cable so you can show your video and pictures
on your TV (with sound)
- Timed series of pictures, like a video, but higher resolution;
to analyse your golf swing, or to catch the right picture when
you don't have time to press the button twice
- Annotated pictures (sound attached)
- Two position picture taking switch, half way is auto-focus, all
the way is take picture. Allows focus here and shoot there.
- Can do very long exposure pictures without the flash.
- Uses 2 common AA batteries, either rechargeable or single use.

Things I am neutral on:
- Mechanical zoom is only 3x. It helps, but I would like more.
- It is big and heavy compared to today's cameras.
- Resolution is small (3.2 megapixels) by today's standards,
but it does very well unless you blow it up 10x.
- I have honestly never even tried the lower resolution camera
settings.
- It has both an optical view finder (that I don't use) and
the color LCD view finder.
- Mine came with an external charger, which means you have to
take out the batteries and loose the date time settings, but
I can charge other batteries with it.
- You can buy an AC adapter / charger that can charge the
batteries while they are in the camera?

Things that I don't like:
- don't bother to use the low resolution video, use the 640x480
- It loses the setup (date, date format, time) when the batteries
are changed (if you take more than 5 seconds). It does not
appear to loose the many other settings though. I don't know if
it always did this. There may be a watch battery inside (don't
go there without a wearable jeweler's loup or other magnifier).
- It does not get power from the USB. You must power it on to
to use the USB connection.
- It does not appear to charge from the USB either. It could.Lire l'avis complet...

Took a chance

I bought this for a friend who wanted a digital camera but couldn't afford one. The seller was asking very little and said it worked "sometimes". I thought my friend could play around with it and get it to work, better than nothing. I had it sent directly to him and told him to replace the rechargable batteries with good quality disposable and see if the shutter opened more regularly. It did so he bought a cheap memory stick for it and now for less than $20.00, he has a camera that works great and takes fantastic pictures"everytime". Great deal for the price. I have found that many digital cameras have trouble with shutter when using recharable batteries. Just a thought, ditch them for disposable and see if you like your camera better.Lire l'avis complet...

camera perfect for work(inspector)works with pro stick!

As an inspector, this came works well, small easy to use, down loads easy to PC with removeable memory stick and the camera take the newer pro sticks, as the others memory stick are not sold in the stores anymore.
The cost(55.00)on eBay makes these cheaper to buy the whole set-up, then just the memory sticks by them selves.
The daughter wants a camera, easy way to go here. As the Sony are durable, that I had no problems of letting the 4yr old take pictures with it.

Enjoy

What an amazing camera!

This little camera does it all. Photos, and movies. And dont let the higher priced cameras fool you with all their megapixels. The average user will NEVER need more than 3.2 mp unless you plan on using it for making posters. If you just want it for 3x5, 4x7, email, than this is PLENTY, trust me! I have taken this camera all over and taken hundreds of pictures, and its great. I dont even bother with the rechargeable batteries. I only use plain ole AA duracells (or any brand) from any store. You get plenty of pictures from them. If you want a good dependable camera, this babys for you :)Lire l'avis complet...
