I was expecting more

I hate to criticize, but every time when I barely knock it with my finger nails it reads like one neutron flying by. As long as you hold it steady in your hands this unit gives, what I believe is, accurate reading. But as soon as you shake it - you will get spooked with false numbers.
I specifically choose, what I thought, better and more expensive product. But it feels like the technology isn't there yet for my standards.

Not really worth it

The Good: This device uses photo diodes which detect the ionizing radiation particles to get a reading It will pickup a little reading using an app like Smart Geiger, from a radium dial time piece, or the old pumpkin orange Fiestaware, but that is about all that it was able to do using the Smart Geiger apps.

The Bad: It is very susceptible to Cellular transmissions, so be sure to be in airplane mode if you plug it in to your cell phone. Tapping or bumping the unit will give a false count on the detector. .

For Gamma Spectrum readings, forget it. I tried it with both a PC and an Android phone using the above mentioned Atom Spectra app, as well as Thermino MCA and a couple of other apps. No good! It barely registered anything. I used a certified Cesium-137 test disk, (see picture) and nothing even came close. After 15 minutes there should have been a nice peak at the green line for the Cs-137 (See picture 3)

If you are serious about checking for low level radiation, for $20-$60 more than you spend here you can get a basic geiger counter that will give you a better reading and you will be happy with. A real basic gamma spectrometer will start at about $550.00

Amazing product at a bargain price, Highly Recommended!

I was skeptical at first that one could perform gamma spectroscopy at such a low price. Typically setups for such cost in excess of a grand. However, this product really works. I was able to get it working on Windows with ThereminoMCA which created a spectrum out of a fiestaware paint chip.
The most important thing to remember is to use the proper extension cable for the MIC jack.
The dosimeter has 4-pole audio plug what some call TRRS. Windows laptops use 3-pole mic ports, so need a conversion cable from 4-pole female to 3-pole male going into the laptop. Then with careful calibration for the noise level and a 20dB boost in MIC level, Windows was able to detect pulses in any audio recording program, you could actually hear them which is an unique experience. (electron hitting the scintillation sensor)
I also got this to work nicely in Android using the SmartGeiger app. Just make sure the phone detects the dosimeter as a handset not headphone, and that you plug it in all the way. If user with an extension cable, make sure to get the 4-pole female to 4-pole male cable, as phones use 4-pole audio jacks.
Lastly, when measuring items, make sure to place them right on top of the dosimeter, not on the sides, which will ensure the isotopes will hit the scintillating material through the thinner top surface.
Oh, and BTW it is built like a tank and quite discrete, not protruding much from your phone, unlike other competing devices.
The only downside is that it cannot detect radiation in the air. For that you'll need a larger dedicated instrument, which most likely will cost at least 10x more and may not be able to perform gamma spectroscopy at that price.
Hopefully these tips will help you enjoy this product as much as I did. The seller offers great support if needed, don't hesitate to contact him. Highly recommended!

Smart Geiger Pro performs as advertised

The device & its accompanying app works as expected on my i-phone 6 plus. They are easy to set up & use. The device seems to be able to pick up very slight background radiation if I monitor for a long enough time period. The device requires an earphone jack in the i-phone which previous i-phone models have. Newer i-phone models would require an earphone jack adapter.Lire l'avis complet...

Nice unit

Really easy to use and seems to be good quality. Only problem I had was unit will not work with a phone case. Manufacturers should have added a bit of an extension to the plug.

Not a Spectrometer

This instrument only detects about 1% of the activity that a regular Geiger Counter can detect. The claims of this being a Spectrometer are nonsense. I tested 4 different isotopes with the Atom Spectra app and it claimed to identify all of them as Np-237. Lire l'avis complet...

Good product, can recommend!

Works perfectly! Control source produces readable results. For spectormetry you have to tinker a bit with the smartphone application settings to have the best results.

It's ok!

Not the most sensitive but compact for sure! Can detect radium watches, uranium pottery (beta radiation) and thorium lenses. Not reliable for detecting depleted uranium glass.
