a gripping, unique, tightly packed tale, I liked it!

I really liked this film. It’s a bit slow in the beginning but if you stick with it, the reward is the rest of the movie. The director and author of "Signs", M. Night Shayamalan (who also directed "The Sixth Sense" ) is a great storyteller and has a gift for letting us know as little as possible about what is going on until he must let us in on what’s going on in the films he makes, this one included all the while the suspense builds. He latches on to the archetypal fears we have and uses them adeptly.
He gives us a glimpse, but its not until the climax of the movie that we see with both eyes open and understand what he is telling us.
It stars Mel Gibson as the main character, “a man of faith” who has lost his faith, Joaquin Phoenix as his steadfast brother and Rory Culkin and Abigail Breslin as Mel Gibsons' characters children, and M. Aliens, faith issues, and hope....It's got it all!

This movie (DVD) focuses upon an alien invasion but in a radically different way than most of this ilk. For example, you see no humans slain by the aliens. For those timid about actually seeing the aliens you have little to worry about. Still, there are a number of tense moments that keep the viewer fully engaged. And with excellent actors, several different themes are found throughout the movie to include faith issues, the belief (or lack thereof) of coincidences, etc. Overall, it's a great movie. Great DVD!

I love this DVD! I had it for years on VHS, but, as with all technology, things get obsolete I am a big fan of crop circles and the idea of alien contact and I would recommend this DVD to whoever likes the same scenario! This movie has an awesome cast with Great child actors that do an Awesome job with their characters! Wonderful plot and the ending is well laid out unlike some others that leave the viewer hanging and confused. I give it 2 thumbs up!Lire l'avis complet...

Great Movie if you Look Beneath the Surface

I thought this movie was kind of goofy when I first watched it but after several viewings I started seeing the deeper meanings and it's 2nd or 3rd fav of MKS's films. I thought little Abigail Breslin's character was awesome and the overall movie ranged from hilarious to deeply moving. I bought this used DVD because mine quit working and it was like new. Not A Blockbuster... Watch it when you get around to it...

This was really a pretty good movie if you like suspense however the plot itself was rather thin and the ending unsatisfying. Think scary monster here, sort of like a typical kids nightmare. There wasn't much in the way of development, no techno-babble real military type weapons display of overwhelming force, etc.. In fact it was when you strip it down a very simple movie rather similar to an X-File episode in some ways! (The acting wasn't as good and not as believable if any of this sort of thing can be dubbed "believable"!! However it had it's scary moments & it was good to see Gibson do something else. They could have made this a real hit, but they didn't. Still, in all it beat alot of the really crummy stuff out there so I rate it a C+. I really like the movie. I hope you do to.

For me the movie is a multi- faceted story about fate, Faith, belief, nonbelief, coincidence, and humanity. All wrapped in a fictional (for now) story about alien contact.

A GEM OF A FRIGHTENING FILM

"Signs" is a frightening yet entertaining film. Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin & Abigail Breslin are flawless in their performances. Abigail Breslin is, of course, my favorite character, and cleverly is the center of the plot. As often as I have watched Signs" and obviously know what is going to happen, I still have to hold on to my husband during the frightening scenes; and I do NOT watch this film when I am alone. The sound-effects alone are enough to frighten me!

M. Night Shyamalan, the director, created another gem with this film. I can't state that I have seen all of his films, but "Signs," "The Sixth Sense" (1999) and the super-hero trilogy encompassing "Unbreakable" (2000), "Split" (2016) and "Glass" (2019) are films I have watched many times; they don't to get old and boring.

A Thriller of a Story!

Let me first say that I've watched this movie numerous times and am still caught up in the story and underlying complexities within it. Yes it is a story about aliens, but not like an action flick or horror. This movie is more of a suspensful drama....and every now and then you'll get a laugh. While the focus is on aliens, there are so many other things going on that will get you thinking - especially the more you watch it. Not only does this film get you to question the existence and nature of other world beings, but things such as faith, coincidences, etc. Although I am not a fan of Mel Gibson by any means, he and the rest of the cast execute their roles flawlessly. While other films such as The Village and Lady in the Water have given many people the impression that Shyamalan is a terrible storyteller, this movie is actually quite brilliant on many levels. I'd say that if you enjoyed the way The Ring (or even Saw)flowed and appeared, then you'll definitely enjoy Signs. As I said, it's more suspense and waiting for something to make you jump out of your seat or the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end...violence is practically non-existant and it's a spooky tale that even adults will be chilled by.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent

The copy I purchased arrived quickly and works perfectly. Signs is one of my favorite movies. In an age where it's hard to find any movie, let alone one about aliens, that isn't pure CGI with little or no plot, Signs really stands out. The acting is great. The script and camera work are exceptional. The suspense is the result of a good score and great directing. I would highly recommend this film to anyone looking for good entertainment without all the gore, destruction, sex and foul language. Awesome

The reason I love this movie is because it is a suspense thriller. Great story and Mel Gibson does a tremendous job in his role as a priest who as recent as 6 months ago lost his wife in a tramatic accident and he has 2 kids to raise by himself. His brother Merill moves in to help him take care of things now since he is one parent. Some weird issues begin to occur and the planet is taken over by aliens. By the end of this movie Mel Gibson returns to the priest hood. This movie has to do with faith and religion. I am not religious but I found this movie to have a strong message.
