Fantastic IQ, slow performance. A niche, specialized tool. Not for amateurs

If you're looking for a DP1 in eBay, you obviously know what it can and cannot do. As such, I may only confirm your expectations:

Image quality? Excellent.
Colors? Beautiful.
Sharpness? Out of this world.
Features? Lacking - this is a camera to take PHOTOGRAPHS, that's it.
Responsiveness? The DP1 takes beautiful shots, but she's a slow renderer. Not adequate for fast action.

If you knew this already, this is a confirmation. If you didn't, beware: this is not a camera for anybody, it's a camera that needs you to NOT be in a rush, to NOT point and shoot, to THINK before you shoot, to take your TIME with each shot. That's when the DP1 will shine brighter than most APSC cameras.

Fine art tool for making fine art masterpiece.

This camera model price is "out-of-this-world" when it was released. Same as its picture quality. Do not think of it as plain vanilla digital camera. It's not.

It's THE fine-art tool for artist-who-knows-what-good-tool-is. If you know nothing about how to make fine arts, buy "those cameras" and snap, snap, snap before throwing away 99% of what's you take.

Artists never do the masterpiece work in such a racing environment.

Foveon camera is not, and will not, fast because of its nature.

Dark side ends. Now the heaven side begins.

ALWAYS think of Foveon camera like this DP as the film camera with built-in ultra high quality, 3-passes scanner. Period.

Most plain people always complains about its slowness. But compared to film camera, any camera, it's lightning fast. The picture is on par with most positive slide film. Bright, crisp, detail, vibrant, etc, etc.

And like most slide film, you need light, lots, to get back good picture. If there's less light, expect nothing except worst pictures.

Best Image Quality Period!!!!!!

Amazing camera, image quality beyond anything else I own and it's in the relatively small size of a point and shoot. I was actually expecting it to be bigger before I received it and was astounded by how small it was after hearing what others were saying about it's size. It's also not the most ergonomic camera around, it can be hard to get a proper hold on it. It does have some quirks that take some patience to get used to and it's not the most feature rich or easy to use camera but once your reviewing your first photos on your computer your hooked, the image quality is something that will make your jaw drop. I know of no other camera where I can zoom in to 100% and have the image be absolutely tack sharp, I just can't believe how sharp and beautiful the images were even though I heard people rave about the image quality before buying it. For me image quality is what you want out of a camera first and foremost and this is the only camera were I'm completely satisfied by the image quality. My bulky DSLR has pretty decent image quality but you have to downsize the photos to get anything near as clear as you get with the DP1. Now I want a DP2 for the faster lens, DP1 for wide angle and DP2 for the fast lens.Lire l'avis complet...

Sigma Foveon cameras - slow but hi IQ (even the older ones)

I have 3 generations of both compact and full size DSLR Sigma Foveon cameras. They are not action camerad, but if image quality is really important to you, they are really brilliant for the price. The last two generations of Merrill and Quattro cameras can output poster size prints from full sixe raw files.

You have to be patient with processing the large size files, but the wait is worth while!

One of the best re absolute image quality.

So good, I had to buy another. Used to have this and the DP2s, sold them and always regretted it.
Just sold my two Leica Digilux 2s, to buy these two amazing DP cameras.
There really is a wonderful clear, film like look to the Foveon sensor and the lenses in these DPs.
Just cannot recommend them enough.
All the best,
Angus

Sigma DP1

Lire l'avis complet...

Very good camera

The picture quality is gorgeous.

But notice the speed of the camera is very slow, so be patient.

I like it very much.

Great camera

Easy to use! ITs very compact also, The only thing that can could be an issue for some is the lag time between shots. other than that i love this camera and would recommend it to those who are looking for dslr quality in a compact body!Lire l'avis complet...
