Worth the Extra Cost
This is a Sigma "Art" lens, as opposed to one in the company's lower-end, cheaper "Contemporary" series. The difference between the Art lenses and the regular lenses is obvious after only a few photographs. I am a professional artist and photographer, and I already own the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens, so this 20-70mm f/2.8 is the complement in what will eventually be the "holy trinity," which include the 70-200mm f/2.8 Art lens. Once you have these lenses, you won't want to go back to ordinary lenses. Images have that special "something" that spoils the discerning professional or advanced amateur. I have included two of my digital artworks that began with photographs using the Sigma 20-70mm Art lens. Better than 24-70mm G Master
The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG Art Lens is of very high building quality and gives very sharp image. Its sharpness and features are as good as if not better than the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master.

My first Sigma lens and I love it
Love the sharp images and affordable price compared to the Sony lens equivalent. Only downside is the weight compared to the camera, but I think it's something I could get used to.

Love this lens!
I shoot sports photography, a lot of volleyball tourneys in sometimes not very well lit gyms. The sigma 2.8 helps alleviate that.
