no switch on SM58

Great mike, and one of the best in the market. It has a switch option available on the more expensive SM58S model. If a feedback episode begins, the mike has no switch to end the feedback immediately, as that is the fastest way to do so, and the mike is usually the culprit. So, one has to go over to the mixer and adjust the mike gain, or whatever is the most handy. Whereas, a mike switch is best and the fastest and could very well mean the difference in blown mids or tweeters or other damage with that extra time taken to adjust out the feedback. Great sound for the Price if used with good PA equipment- Softer than other

Good Day all,

Today I begin a new review on the popular Shure SM58 Cartoid microphone.

This review is especially important because I am reviewing it as a full time traveling musician and music promoter. I have been in the business for over 35 years, playing venues such as Disney, Knott's, Magic Mountain and other southern Cal Entertainment locations. I am currently a Drummer/Promoter for a popular group in Central California, and play on a very regular basis with reoccurring venues at upper class resorts and eateries. I am not at liberty to divulge these venues but just know they are legit and they are upper class.

Now let's get to the review.
The Shure SM58 I own is replacing the popular drummer microphone, the Shure SM 10a headset Mic. I replaced the SM10 because our group has three to four singers using SM58's and the SM10a headset simply could not deliver the power to mix well with SM58's. We are using a higher cost Bose PA sound tower with a Yamaha 12 channel stereo mixer capable of 400 watts RMS.

This microphone has turned out to be a God send. It is very dynamic with little Pop or high end treble slop when singing jazz pieces. The on mic switch is helpful between songs that don't require backup and it's overall size and weight can be supported by the lower cost mic stands. My recommendation is to secure a Hercules mic stand however and make sure you have a three legged stand. Stay away from the round bases unless yu are M.C.ing or you are a lead singer with no instrument.

This microphone is not as loud as some of it's competitors, but for the price it can compete mainly because of the crisp bite and versatility.

Right now you can pick this mic up on EBay for around $55-60
but if your patient, you can get it for less.

Be sure to ask the seller for the history of the mic and try to get one from a smokeless home, studio, or stationary use. Microphones loose there value when they are used on the road for long periods.

I will add more in the future. Please leave positive ratings and I will do more research for you.

The Shure SM58 professional microphone

I've bought and sold several hundred pro audio items on Ebay, and out of nowhere [LOL] they ask me to write two reviews, both about the legendary Shure SM 58. The pros know what's up. As for the rest of you who might be interested, the SM 58 and its counterpart SM 57 provide an unbeatable combination of dependability, durability and predictability. No need to be afraid of buying a used one as long as the lister is truthful. I bought two 58s and two 57s on the same day on Ebay. I got a good value. I have a few high-end, rare and 'precision' mics, but I still use the SM series. As I have other 58s, I will be customizing these by removing the transformers and changing the electronics for my own purposes. Also, there are transformers you can buy from pro audio dealers to modify the SM 57/58 for different musical effect. Most will have no need for this type of customization, but for those want a durable and dependable workhorse of a good sounding microphone for speech, instrument or song, the SM 57/58 series will get the job done in a reliable and predictable fashion.Lire l'avis complet...

overall Shure SM58 is a good mike

I bought this mike for home recording, karaoke and singing in general. I'm not a professional singer nor I plan to be one it's just a hobby. I bought a slightly used one but I could not tell that haven't I known it. Overall the mike is good and can be seen easily that is a well built (and mine is not a replica) with high quality materials, rugged and inspires a dependability feeling. For mike qualities I cannot say much since I haven't tested or own but another dynamic very old one, but it sounds as good as it can be for a low impedance dynamic mike. It can't be better than a condenser mike but that's a whole lot more expensive and different category for that matter to even compare. it is considered to be the best live vocal mike and a good one to use for tests and rehearsals. the proximity effect is well taken care of but perhaps this is what i didn't like about it. another thing i didn't like is that being a dynamic mike you have to gain max the preamp which leaves you no room to play with. one special behavior i noticed is that you have to keep a pretty steady distance from it as it looses quickly volume the further away is.
you may need an amp after the preamp in the chain. overall i would rate it good but not excellent. for the money you pay for it even new i would rate it excellent.

Legendary sound

Industry standard mic for bands, dj's, auctioneers, press conferences, churches, etc. THIS 40 year old tech is good but as tech gets better there are better frequency responses from other mics as the same price. But its built like a tank and still can compete as a workhorse for musicians. The bass is good and the gain could be better but it matches db's with other mics for your mixer. Seinheisers will run circles around this mic for gain, but the flat response is legendary.Lire l'avis complet...

A great live vocal mic and industry standard

I checked no to the question "Is it lightweight?" because it is a very well built mic and made for the rigors of the road tour and gig after gig. I have used Shure SM-58's for years and have never had one fail. In fact, every Shure mic I have are still working as good as the day i bought them, and I have at least 20. I have been in many bands for over more than 25 years and these are my mics of choice, as well as being the mics of choice for many famous musicians and their tours and sound crews. The SM-58 is a standard of the music industry for a great sounding, practically bulletproof, vocal mic. You will not be disappointed.Lire l'avis complet...

Shure SM58 microphone with on/off switch

The Shure SM58 microphone helped with our feedback problems during rehearsal. Construction appears to be very good. We got a better overall tone from this model compared to our cheaper mics that we purchased before. I decided to buy the SM58 after getting a chance to try it out for myself at a friend's gig. Plus, I've begun to notice how popular this mic is. I've seen it at several other band performances and in a few movies. The switch that came with mine is helpful for us. There is no noise or "thump" sound when you turn the mic off or on. Great microphone. Get them at the best deal you can.Lire l'avis complet...

Good mic for beginner

Just beginning to work on my recording studio and all I had is USB mics, nothing for my interface. This is the first mic I've got, as I'm working up to getting a condenser mic. I've only sung through it for a couple days but I can hear a dramatic improval compared to my cheap $20 microphones. It seems durable and although it's a dynamic it sounds great with vocals (though I havent tried it out live just studio). Had some issues with the XLR cable not recieving signal but I just had to push the word into the microphone slightly and it began to work. Not sure if that's the cable or the mic but it seems to have fixed the problem and the mic works great! I bought a popfikter alongside it and it's working perfectly for the recordings I want to do. Shure SM58 Microphone

I have owned and used the Shure SM58 microphones for years in a live music environment. I have never experienced a failure with this model. They are tough and are some of the best sounding mics on the market.
I use them in my music group and I use them for professional sound reinforcement gigs with our sound company. They are probably the most commonly used and respected microphone in the audio industry.
The price of a Shure SM58 is within reach of any person who requires excellence and performance without compromise. In 25 to 30 years of experience with these mics ,I have never known of a failure occuring, nor have I ever met anyone who regretted buying one or more of these mics.
I will say, that I have sometimes been amazed at people I knew or met who would drop a couple thousand dollars on an instrument like a guitar in the quest of aquiring the best, and them be too "tight" or " cheap" to pay from $50.00 to $125.00 for a mic that is legendary and used by more performing artists than all the other mic models combined. I always wondered why they watched all of the pros use these and could never figure that out.
I personally play guitar and sing onstage several times each month and I will not be on stage without my SM58. When I listen to a vocal performance, I can tell you, the vocal carries the message.....the guitar or whatever helps deliver that message. I think that when most people understand that principle, the choice is clear and easy.
Do yourself a favor and use a Shure SM58. You will not regret it.

It was very much a pleasure for me to write this review on a product I use and believe in so much.
Best Wishes, JKSDURANGO

Great Wireless system

These mics works perfect not a single interference or drop of sound, sound quality from hanheld is excellent from lavalier type is very good, it is very esay to use and setup, of. Ourse I recommend it over cheap System from sure mostly for the quality of the sound. My only complain is that there is no single comment (at least that I cold find) netoher on the manual pr product characteristics that says that just one of the mics could be used at once it handheld or lavalier. So I had to see it by my self when I tested for the first time. I think I will need to get another receptor to ha e both mics at the same time. Anyway this is a very good reliq le product. My Pastor loves it and there are no more distracctions crom the congregations due to signal drops we had with a previous cheap system.Lire l'avis complet...
