Faithful to the Novel, to a Point
I had just finished the novel, but I should have been expecting a disappointing viewing considering this was made 40 years ago. LOL! The soundtrack was so dated and really distracting. I liked the performances, and the fact that you understand only as much of the language as the protagonist. My husband thought there wasn't enough battle (and he's right) and that it had a very anticlimactic ending. But the ending was just like the book, with some of the voice over being recited verbatim from the book. When the protagonist wasn't in the story, I would have liked subtitles. Occasionally the narrator would speak over the dialogue with some exposition. I haven't watched the special features yet, but plan to.Lire l'avis complet...

Great story, acting and a fantastic series
The story had a great plot. You actually learn some Japanese. The actors were excellent. I have wanted this series for awhile but the price is reasonable now. I enjoyed it very much but I had forgotten how violent it was although there were reasons for the violence. You learned some history while watching it. I read the book and watched the miniseries during its original broadcast. I wanted to see it again, but it was not available for streaming or replay. Thank you for providing this product. Comparison between HD and SD
Although the picture quality of the blu-ray is superior to the standard DVD, I noticed a screen pattern in the blu-ray that is not present in my old boxed set.

Shogun the mini series dvd/bluray
I absolutely love this mini series. I remember watching it Sunday night for 3 weeks when it originally aired. So happy to finally have a copy of it.
